ACCPRO is seeking a Forward Trading Lead in Ireland to shape and deliver its forward trading and hedging strategy across the Irish power portfolio. This senior role combines trading, analytics and commercial judgement to optimise portfolio performance and manage market risk.

You will lead a three-person team, influence trading strategy, market analysis, and governance while ensuring compliance with EMIR, REMIT and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Lead hedging strategy development for the Irish power portfolio and optimize hedge timing.

We are working with a leading Irish renewable energy organisation that is seeking an experienced Forward Trading Lead to play a key role in shaping and delivering its forward trading and hedging strategy across its Irish power portfolio.

This is a senior, commercially focused opportunity for an energy markets professional with strong knowledge of the Irish Single Electricity Market, forward power markets and renewable generation. The successful candidate will combine trading expertise, analytical capability and commercial judgement to optimise portfolio performance, manage market risk and support strategic decision-making.

You will also lead a team of three and have significant influence across trading strategy, market analysis, price forecasting, risk management, regulatory compliance and the continued development of trading processes and controls.

Key Responsibilities

As Forward Trading Lead, you will:

• Lead the development and execution of approved hedging strategies for the Irish power portfolio, optimising hedge volumes, products and timing within agreed mandates.
• Monitor trading positions and performance, manage credit, liquidity and execution risks, develop counterparties and market access, and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations to senior stakeholders.
• Own and continually improve the Energy Trade Risk Management framework, including trade capture, data quality, controls, position reporting, new asset and product onboarding and audit readiness.
• Ensure compliance with relevant EMIR, REMIT and energy-market requirements, as well as internal treasury policies and procedures, including requirements relating to PPAs and Guarantees of Origin.
• Lead forward-market analysis and performance reporting, assessing market conditions, price drivers, competitor activity and asset economics to identify commercial opportunities and risks.
• Develop scenarios and sensitivity analysis and translate complex market information into actionable trading recommendations, KPIs and management insights.
• Monitor changes to energy-market design, policy and regulation, assessing their commercial and operational impact and working with internal stakeholders to ensure the trading function is prepared for implementation.
• Lead the development, validation and governance of electricity market pricing models for I-SEM and Great Britain, maintaining robust assumptions and scenarios and producing regular price forecasts to support trading, asset operations, regulatory analysis and investment decisions.
• Lead outage and capacity-market analysis, providing recommendations on capacity risks around key outages and developing the secondary capacity trading strategy, controls and reporting.
• Lead, coach and performance-manage a team of three, setting clear objectives, prioritising workloads, reviewing quality and developing team capability.
• Drive continuous improvement across trading processes, controls, systems and reporting.

Key Skills

We are looking for an experienced energy markets professional with a strong combination of power trading, analytical and commercial expertise.

You will ideally have:

• A minimum of five years' relevant experience in power trading, forward hedging, power-market analytics, price forecasting or commercial energy analysis.
• Strong knowledge of the SEM/I-SEM, forward power markets, market drivers and generation asset economics.
• Experience making or supporting commercially significant trading or investment decisions.
• Demonstrable experience developing or applying power-price forecasts, market models, scenarios and statistical analysis to support trading decisions.
• Experience managing trading positions, hedge performance, counterparty or credit considerations and associated trading controls.
• Strong analytical capability, including experience working with large datasets, testing assumptions and translating complex analysis into clear commercial recommendations.
• Advanced Excel and data-analysis skills.
• Experience of ETRM systems, trading controls and management reporting.
• Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior decision-makers through clear, evidence-based recommendations.
• Demonstrable people-leadership experience, including coaching, objective setting, workload prioritisation and capability development.
• A relevant Honours degree (NFQ Level 8, minimum 2.1) in a quantitative discipline such as Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Analytics or a related field.
