We are seeking a practical, detail-oriented Hardware Validation Engineer to join our client’s engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electronics professional to contribute to the development and validation of innovative electronic products, ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, safety and quality.
This is a hands-on, laboratory-based role involving the verification and validation of electronic products throughout the product development lifecycle. Working closely with Hardware, Firmware, Compliance, Quality, Manufacturing and Test teams, you will play a key role in identifying design issues, improving product robustness and supporting successful product releases.
The position offers the opportunity to work with a variety of electronic technologies while further developing your technical expertise in hardware testing, troubleshooting and product validation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and execute hardware validation plans, test procedures and technical test reports.
- Review electronic schematics, PCB layouts, bills of materials (BOMs) and hardware specifications to assess testability and identify potential design risks.
- Perform functional, electrical, environmental and reliability testing on electronic products and subsystems.
- Validate analogue, digital, power supply, sensor, RF and embedded hardware designs.
- Conduct testing under a range of operating conditions, including variations in supply voltage, battery performance, temperature and environmental extremes.
- Perform design verification, current consumption, power management, start-up and shutdown testing.
- Support EMC pre-compliance testing, including electrostatic discharge (ESD), surge, emissions and immunity testing.
- Carry out electrical robustness and safety-related testing on mains-powered products.
- Investigate product failures, reproduce faults, support root-cause analysis and verify corrective actions.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, electronic loads and environmental chambers.
- Maintain accurate test records and prepare clear, structured technical documentation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve technical issues and ensure products meet performance, quality and regulatory requirements.
- A Diploma, Higher Certificate, Higher Diploma or Degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation or a related discipline.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in hardware validation, electronics testing, laboratory engineering or a similar technical role.
- Strong hands-on experience working with electronic products and PCB assemblies.
- Ability to interpret electronic schematics, PCB layouts, bills of materials and component datasheets.
- Practical experience using standard electronics laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Strong troubleshooting, fault-finding and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and a structured approach to testing, data analysis and documentation.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience with EMC pre-compliance testing and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of environmental, reliability and product stress testing.
- Experience testing battery-operated and mains-powered electronic products.
- Familiarity with RF-enabled products and wireless communication technologies.
- Knowledge of sensor technologies, analogue electronics and mixed-signal circuits.
- Experience with product validation in regulated or safety-critical environments.
- Familiarity with relevant EN and IEC standards, EMC requirements and electrical safety standards.
