Job summary

Merchant Cafe, Galway City Centre is seeking an enthusiastic Front Desk Clerk to welcome guests and manage check-in/check-out at the hotel’s reception. You will use Opera Cloud to process reservations, post charges and assist guests with requests.

The ideal candidate brings at least 1 year of front desk experience, excellent communication in English, and a professional appearance. This in-person role offers daily tasks in a busy Galway setting with opportunities to upsell services.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience at hotel front desk.
• Proficient in Opera Cloud or similar Property Management System.
• Fluent English and excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work well in a team and on own initiative.
• Professional appearance and presentation.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests on arrival in a warm, welcoming manner.
• Check in/out guests accurately and efficiently.
• Use computerised system to process transactions.
• Upsell dining, porter services and reservations as appropriate.
• Post charges to guest bills and balance reception cash.
• Handle reservations and respond to guests promptly.
• Answer calls with a friendly tone and route to correct extensions.
• Take messages with date, time, and initials for follow-up.
• Ensure messages reach relevant staff immediately.
• Address guest requests politely and report issues to Front Desk Manager.
• Balance cash at end of shift.
• Allocate rooms considering guest requests and availability.
• Maximise sales opportunities at the desk.
• Maintain secure handling of monies.
• Follow Health & Safety and Hygiene policies as required.
