Job summary

Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) invites applications for a Fisheries Officer in Limerick. The role focuses on implementing fisheries acts, protecting habitats, and developing inland and sea angling resources. It involves front-line duties across protection, conservation, and development with an emphasis on outdoor work and weekend/evening hours.

You will patrol, enforce regulations, collect data, and assist anglers and the public while collaborating with a team of officers. Garda vetting applies.

Qualifications

• Leaving Certificate (Level 5 NFQ) or recognised equivalent.
• A full Category B driving licence that is valid in Ireland.
• No convictions under the Irish Fisheries Legislation; eligible to work in the State.
• Fluent English – both spoken and written.
• Good knowledge of computer skills including MS Office.
• Reside close to base (within 60 mins drive).
• Competent in and on the water (sea, lakes, rivers).
• Passion for promoting, protecting and conserving natural resources.

Responsibilities

• Patrol lakes, rivers, sea, coast and estuaries to check for illegal fishing.
• Detect and report pollution, take samples and gather information.
• Inspect licence holders and recreational anglers for licence/permit compliance.
• Issue Fixed Penalty Notices where appropriate and gather evidence for legal procedures.
• Operate and maintain boats; support protection staff on patrols.
• Contribute to habitat improvement schemes and fisheries access development.
• Keep records and reports; stay up to date with legislation and scientific developments.
