Job description

Financial Controller

Trim, Co. Meath

An established and growing business operating across the civil engineering, earthworks, plant hire, haulage and quarry products sectors is seeking an experienced and commercially focused Financial Controller to lead its finance function.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Financial Controller will be a key member of the senior management team, supporting the financial management, commercial performance and strategic direction of the business. This is a broad leadership role offering autonomy and visibility across multiple projects and business divisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, budgets, forecasts and cash flow projections
• Produce financial performance and KPI reports for senior management
• Monitor profitability across contracts and business operations
• Review project cost reports, WIP schedules and contract valuations
• Manage cash flow, banking relationships and working capital requirements
• Oversee VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax, RCT and Revenue filings
• Maintain strong financial controls, governance procedures and reporting systems
• Manage weekly and monthly payroll processes
• Supervise finance and administration staff
• Provide commercial analysis to support investment and strategic business decisions
• Work closely with operational and commercial teams to improve business performance
• Liaise with external auditors, accountants and professional advisers

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Accountant, including ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
• At least 10 years’ experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance position
• Strong experience in financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting
• Excellent knowledge of Irish taxation and statutory reporting requirements
• Strong leadership, analytical and stakeholder management skills
• Commercially focused with a proactive, hands-on approach
• Experience within construction, civil engineering, quarrying, haulage or plant hire would be advantageous. Knowledge of project accounting, WIP reporting and contract costing would also be beneficial.
