Job summary

Communicate Recruitment Solutions is seeking an experienced Financial Controller for an established Irish construction and engineering business in Dublin. You will own the finance function and lead a small team, delivering robust financial reporting and commercial insight.

Reporting to the senior leadership team, the role encompasses budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, tax compliance and audit coordination, with strong focus on project profitability and process improvements.

Qualifications

• ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent is required.
• 5+ years post-qualified experience preferred.
• Construction, engineering, contracting, manufacturing or project-based experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the day-to-day finance function and lead a small finance team.
• Prepare accurate monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
• Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
• Prepare cash-flow forecasts and monitor working capital.
• Provide financial analysis and commercial insight to senior management.
• Monitor project profitability, margins, costs and financial performance.
• Work with project managers and operations to improve financial performance.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger activities.
• Coordinate the annual audit and statutory accounts preparation.
• Maintain strong financial controls and compliance with policies.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems and reporting.
• Support senior management with financial modelling and ad-hoc analyses.

An established and growing construction and engineering business is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to take ownership of the finance function and provide high-quality financial and commercial support to the wider business.

Reporting to the senior leadership team, the Financial Controller will oversee day-to-day finance operations while playing a key role in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management and business performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the day-to-day finance function and lead a small finance team.

• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger activities.
• Manage VAT, corporation tax and other statutory requirements.
• Coordinate the annual audit and preparation of statutory accounts.
• Maintain strong financial controls and ensure compliance with company policies.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems and reporting.
• Support senior management with financial modelling and ad-hoc commercial analysis.
• Assist with strategic projects and business development initiatives as required.

The Ideal Candidate

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• 5+ years' post-qualified experience preferred.
• Previous experience in construction, engineering, contracting, manufacturing or a project-based environment would be highly advantageous.
• Strong management accounting, reporting and financial control experience.
• Excellent understanding of cash flow, working capital and project accounting.
• Strong Excel and financial modelling skills.
• Commercially focused with the ability to challenge and influence operational stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Previous experience managing or mentoring a finance team.
