Job summary

Mainline Group is seeking a newly qualified Financial Accountant to join our Cork Finance team. This broad, hands-on role offers exposure across the full finance function rather than specialising in one area.

The successful candidate will gain practical exposure to financial and management accounting, month-end reporting, accounts payable, audit, statutory reporting, financial controls, and finance improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• A newly qualified accountant with practice or industry experience.
• ACCA/ ACA / CPA qualification required.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Construction sector experience preferred.
• Experience dealing with auditors is advantageous.
• Excellent communication and teamwork.
• Commercial awareness and risk-based thinking.
• Strong IT skills, especially Excel.
• Experience using COINS ERP or similar ERP systems.

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day operations of the finance function ensuring accurate processing.
• Manage full Accounts Payable from invoice receipt to payment.
• Prepare supplier payments, customer receipts, and GL maintenance.
• Prepare month-end management accounts, journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations.
• Maintain accurate accounting records and robust financial controls.
• Support year-end processes, audits and statutory reporting.
• Contribute to finance transformation projects and system improvements.
• Provide wider support across the finance team as the business grows.

Newly Qualified Financial Accountant

About the Role:

We are seeking a newly qualified Financial Accountant to join our Finance team in Cork. This is a broad, hands-on role designed to provide experience across the full finance function rather than specialising in one area. The successful candidate will gain practical exposure to financial and management accounting, month-end reporting, accounts payable, audit, statutory reporting, financial controls, and finance improvement initiatives. Working directly with the Financial Controller, the role will also provide opportunities to develop commercial understanding and business partnering experience across a growing construction environment. Accounts Payable will form part of the role, alongside significant responsibility for core accounting, reporting and wider finance activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the day-to-day operations of the finance function, ensuring transactions are processed accurately
• Manage the full Accounts Payable process from receipt of invoice through to payment
• Prepare supplier payments, customer receipts, and general ledger maintenance.
• Prepare month-end management accounts, including journals, accruals, prepayments, balance sheet reconciliations
• Maintain accurate accounting records and support robust financial controls.
• Support year-end processes, external audits, and statutory reporting requirements.
• Contribute to finance transformation projects, system improvements, and process enhancement initiatives.
• Provide wider support across the finance team and take ownership of key responsibilities as the business continues to grow.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• A newly qualified accountant with experience either in practice or industry.
• Hold an ACCA/ ACA / CPA Qualification
• Excellent organisational and time management skills with experience in prioritising multiple deadlines
• Strong attention to detail
• Previous experience with the construction sector is preferred.
• Previous experience in either being the auditor or dealing with auditors
• Excellent communication skills and ability to be a team player.
• A level of commercial awareness and understanding of a risk-based approach.
• Strong IT skills particularly Excel.
• Experience using COINS ERP, or a similar construction/engineering ERP system would be advantageous
