Job summary

BSS Building Staff Solutions Limited is seeking a Junior Estimator for its Galway office. The role offers exposure to a varied pipeline of commercial construction, refurbishment, fit-out and maintenance projects, with support from experienced colleagues.

Ideal candidates have a relevant qualification in construction, QS, or engineering, plus some estimating or site exposure. Strong numeracy, attention to detail and proficiency with spreadsheets are important for success in this position.

Qualifications

• Relevant construction, quantity surveying, engineering or related qualification desirable.
• Some estimating/tendering or site experience beneficial; suitable graduates considered.
• Good numerical ability, attention to detail and confidence with spreadsheets.
• Ability to read construction drawings or willingness to develop this skill.
• Organised, proactive and able to communicate with suppliers and subcontractors.
• Able to work from Galway office.

Responsibilities

• Assist with reviewing tender documents, drawings, specifications and bills of quantities.
• Prepare take-offs and support the compilation of competitive tender estimates.
• Issue enquiries to subcontractors and suppliers, follow up quotations and maintain enquiry records.
• Compare quotations and identify scope gaps, exclusions and tender risks.
• Maintain pricing records and organise tender submissions and supporting documents.
• Work with senior estimators, quantity surveyors and project delivery teams.

Location: Galway office

Salary: 40,000 55,000 per annum, depending on experience

Role level: Junior estimator or construction graduate with estimating exposure

The Opportunity

A busy Galway-based construction contractor is looking to appoint a Junior Estimator to strengthen its in-house tendering team. The role offers exposure to a varied pipeline of commercial construction, refurbishment, fit-out and maintenance projects, with support from experienced colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with reviewing tender documents, drawings, specifications and bills of quantities.


• Prepare take-offs and support the compilation of competitive tender estimates.


• Issue enquiries to subcontractors and suppliers, follow up quotations and maintain enquiry records.


• Compare quotations and assist in identifying scope gaps, exclusions and tender risks.


• Maintain pricing records and organise tender submissions and supporting documents.


• Work with senior estimators, quantity surveyors and project delivery teams.
