Job summary

Occupli is seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer to join a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing operation on an initial 6–12 month contract. This role offers ownership of a broad site-based environmental remit within a highly regulated setting.

You will work with site management to ensure continued compliance with Irish environmental legislation, the IE Licence, trade effluent, waste management and environmental monitoring obligations, with a focus on practical improvements.

Qualifications

  • 2–3+ years' relevant environmental experience, preferably within pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing.
  • Experience with IE Licence requirements and waste management obligations.
  • Liaison with EPA or other regulatory authorities and knowledge of Irish environmental legislation.
  • Experience in monitoring and reporting environmental data and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Occupli are currently seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer to join a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing operation on an initial 6–12 month contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for an environmental professional looking to take ownership of a broad site-based environmental remit within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.

Working closely with site management and key operational stakeholders, you will play a central role in ensuring continued compliance with Irish environmental legislation, the Industrial Emissions Licence (IE Licence), trade effluent requirements, waste legislation and environmental monitoring obligations.

The successful candidate will bring strong practical environmental experience, ideally gained within pharmaceutical, chemical, life sciences or another highly regulated manufacturing environment.

Requirements
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support the site's environmental compliance activities, ensuring alignment with applicable Irish environmental legislation, regulations and licence conditions.
  • Support ongoing compliance with the site's Industrial Emissions Licence (IE Licence) and associated environmental obligations.
  • Liaise with relevant regulatory and statutory bodies, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and local authorities.
  • Monitor and support compliance with trade effluent requirements and discharge licence conditions.
  • Coordinate environmental sampling, including effluent sampling and associated monitoring activities.
  • Support the management and interpretation of environmental monitoring data and reporting.
  • Coordinate environmental audit programmes and support the close-out of identified actions.
  • Identify environmental risks, concerns and areas for improvement and provide practical recommendations to site management.
  • Develop, maintain and review environmental policies, procedures, records and compliance documentation.
  • Maintain an up-to-date environmental legislation and regulatory requirements register.
  • Support environmental awareness and training initiatives across the site.
  • Provide environmental reporting and relevant performance information to management.
  • Oversee site waste management activities, including waste segregation, storage, disposal and recycling.
  • Monitor waste contractors and support effective waste cost management and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure appropriate management and disposal of returned packaging and other relevant waste streams.
  • Support compliance with applicable waste management legislation.
  • Carry out or coordinate environmental noise monitoring and assessment where required.
  • Support the management of air emissions and associated environmental compliance requirements.
  • Contribute to environmental emergency preparedness and response arrangements.
  • Work collaboratively with EHS, Engineering, Operations, Facilities and other site functions to maintain high environmental standards.
What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 2–3+ years' relevant environmental experience, preferably within pharmaceutical, chemical, life sciences or another regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in environmental compliance within an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Practical experience with Industrial Emissions Licence (IE Licence) requirements.
  • Experience engaging with or liaising with the EPA or other environmental regulatory authorities.
  • Good knowledge of Irish environmental legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with waste management and environmental monitoring.
  • Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of environmental compliance activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability.
  • Good IT and environmental management systems skills.
Desirable Experience / Qualifications

The following would be advantageous:

  • Engineering or other relevant environmental/technical qualification.
  • Experience with trade effluent legislation and compliance.
  • Experience with air emissions legislation and compliance.
  • Environmental noise measurement and assessment experience or qualification.
  • Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA) qualification or relevant experience.
  • Chemical safety experience.
  • Waste management and waste cost optimisation experience.
  • Waste recycling and resource efficiency experience.
  • Experience implementing or managing environmental emergency response systems.
  • Experience working with environmental management and reporting systems, including EDEN and similar regulatory/compliance platforms.
