  • Develop and manage EMS/EnMS frameworks aligned to ISO14001/ISO50001.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to embed environmental requirements in design, procurement, and operations.

The Company

Echelon Data Centres was established in 2017 by the main principal of Aldgate Developments, a leading commercial property developer and owner of major commercial office buildings in Central London and Dublin. The objective was developing, operating, and owning a network of large-scale, responsibly designed, sustainably powered data centre campuses across the world to meet the rapidly expanding global demand for hyperscale data processing and storage solutions. Since then, the Echelon Group has expanded to ownership of six sites across Ireland and the United Kingdom and has secured >€1bn of funding to develop sites, giving the Group an enterprise value of c€2.5bn. The Group’s second campus will go live imminently. Located in Sandyford Dublin, Echelon Data Centres is now seeking a Environmental Manager to join the team. This role provides an excellent opportunity to join a rapidly growing Irish company and will report to the Procurement Director.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Manager to lead environmental compliance, permitting, and sustainability initiatives across our data centre and energy generation portfolio. The successful candidate will play a critical role in securing and maintaining Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) licences, ensuring full regulatory compliance, and supporting environmentally responsible operations. The Environmental Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the organisation’s environmental and energy management systems across data centre facilities and associated energy centres. This role ensures full compliance with ISO 14001 and ISO 50001, as well as all relevant environmental legislation, licenses, and corporate sustainability commitments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the preparation, submission, and IED licence applications (EPA or equivalent regulatory bodies).
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all IED licence conditions, environmental permits, and statutory obligations.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and permits
  • Maintain compliance registers
  • Manage reporting and audits
  • Liaise with regulators
  • Act as the primary point of contact with environmental regulators (e.g., EPA, local authorities).
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess impacts on operations, implementing necessary actions.
  • Develop and manage EMS and EnMS frameworks compliant with ISO14000 and ISO50001, respectively.
  • Lead ISO certification and audits
  • Maintain documentation and compliance records

  • Operations Management
  • Provide environmental oversight for data centre infrastructure (backup generation, cooling systems, fuel storage).
  • Support compliance for thermal generation assets, including gas turbines, CHP plants, and backup generators.
  • Oversee management of key environmental aspects such as:
  • Air emissions (NOx, CO₂, particulates)
  • Noise and vibration
  • Water discharge and abstraction
  • Hazardous materials and waste
  • Oversee emissions, waste, energy, water and refrigerants
  • Ensure environmental controls in live operations
  • Project & Lifecycle Integration
  • Collaborating with internal teams to embed environmental requirements into design, construction and procurement
  • Performance & Continuous Improvement
  • Track KPIs
  • Drive energy and carbon reduction initiatives
  • Supplier & Contractor Management
  • Ensure supplier compliance with ISO 140017 ISO 50001
  • Integrate environmental requirements into contracts
  • Governance & Reporting
  • Provide reporting to senior leadership

  • Promote environmental awareness
Skills & Experience
  • Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in environmental management within:
  • Data centres, energy generation, utilities, or heavy industry
