About Astatine
Astatine Limited is a specialised energy company focused on accelerating the transition to zero carbon for energy users across multiple sectors. We design, construct, operate, and maintain multi-technology assets, including solar PV, battery energy storage, heat pumps, and advanced controls. Our core values are collaboration, innovation, urgency, and integrity. As the energy sector grows rapidly, interns will have the opportunity to upskill in cutting-edge technologies and gain exposure to real-world engineering projects.
Position Overview
This internship offers hands-on experience across mechanical, electrical, controls, and solar engineering. You will support project teams in designing, analysing, and implementing sustainable energy solutions. The role is ideal for students or recent graduates eager to learn and contribute to decarbonisation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in analysing customer site infrastructure (thermal, electrical, and controls) and propose solutions under supervision.
- Support the design and integration of solar PV, battery storage, heat pump, and control systems into client processes.
- Participate in engineering design tasks, including energy balance, performance predictions, and system layouts.
- Attend and contribute to customer, project construction, and design meetings.
- Collaborate with experienced engineers to select key equipment (e.g., pumps, control valves, heat exchangers, solar modules, inverters).
- Assist in creating detailed design plans, drawings, and specifications using CAD and BIM tools (see requirements below).
- Help coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and manage project timelines.
- Review and learn from mechanical, electrical, and controls designs to ensure performance, accuracy, and safety.
- Share knowledge and learn from team members, contributing to a collaborative environment.
- Take part in technical discussions and brainstorming sessions to develop innovative engineering solutions.
- Be organised, self-motivated and comfortable, asking questions when requirements are unclear.
- Be willing to work collaboratively across different departments and business functions.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, Energy, or Controls
- Engineering (or related discipline).
- Basic understanding of heat pump, chiller, solar PV, and/or battery storage systems.
- Familiarity with selection and design of key equipment (pumps, control valves, heat exchangers, solar modules, inverters, process piping).
- Proficiency in CAD software is required, specifically:
o Revit (for BIM and 3D design tasks)
o 2D AutoCAD (for technical drawings and schematics) - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (especially Excel) is a plus.
- Good communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
- Self-motivated, eager to learn, and passionate about renewable energy and decarbonisation.
- Valid driver’s license is preferable but not mandatory.
- Opportunity to work with a highly experienced team and gain exposure to multiple engineering disciplines.
