Job summary

UPMC Whitfield Hospital in Waterford seeks a Clinical Nurse Manager I for Endoscopy to lead clinical practice, supervise nursing staff, and support CNM II. The role focuses on delivering safe, evidence-based care during endoscopic procedures and driving quality improvements within a multidisciplinary team.

The CNM I will participate in admission, transfer and discharge processes, promote patient-centred care, and ensure infection control standards.

Qualifications

• Be registered, or eligible for registration in the General Division of the live Register of Nurses kept by NMBI.
• Minimum three years’ post-registration experience in an acute hospital with at least one year’s endoscopy experience.
• Hold or be willing to attain a management course.
• Evidence of continuing professional development.
• Awareness of HR policies and procedures.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft packages.
• Active role in continuous improvement using lean tools and methodology.

Responsibilities

• Actively participate in endoscopy lists, assisting the CNM II to ensure highest professional standards with evidence-based care.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care and supervise other qualified nurses.
• Provide professional and clinical leadership to the nursing team.
• Ensure safe, comprehensive care per NMBI guidelines.
• Collaborate with patients, families, carers and staff to develop good relationships.
• Monitor and evaluate patient care using hospital quality systems.
• Promote patient-centred care delivery.
• Ensure infection prevention and control standards are followed at all times.
• Work as part of the multidisciplinary team to promote teamwork and patient care.
• Ensure staff are familiar with equipment use and maintenance.
• Deputise for CNM2 in their absence and promote evidence-based practice.
• Support orientation, training and professional development of nursing staff.
• Coordinate with decontamination endoscopy team for instruments.
• Supervise and deploy nursing staff to deliver care efficiently.
• Assist CNM2 with roster and workforce planning where required.
• Manage resources effectively and lead practice development with CNM2.
• Lead change using lean methodology.
• Contribute to policy development at department and hospital level.
