Job summary

Sterling Engineering Ltd - Ireland & Europe is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to develop and maintain embedded software for life safety and connected home products in Shannon, Ireland. You will work in a multidisciplinary R&D team from concept to launch, spanning embedded systems, wireless connectivity and IoT technologies.

Responsibilities include designing, testing and debugging across microcontrollers, RTOS, and embedded Linux, with emphasis on BLE, Matter, Thread, and Wi‑Fi

Qualifications

• Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
• Four or more years of embedded software development experience.
• Strong C/C++ programming skills; Python is desirable.
• Experience with microcontrollers, embedded systems and real-time software.
• Knowledge of communication protocols such as SPI, I²C, UART, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
• Experience with debugging tools and hardware-software integration.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain embedded software using C/C++.
• Contribute to software architecture, drivers, communication protocols and system integration.
• Develop and debug software for microcontrollers, RTOS and embedded Linux platforms.
• Support wireless technologies including BLE, Matter, Thread and Wi-Fi.

• Collaborate with Hardware, RF, Validation and Quality teams.

The Opportunity
We are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to develop and maintain embedded software for life safety and connected home products.
