Job summary

H&MV Engineering is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to contribute to high voltage design across substations, grid connections, and renewables installations in Ireland and the UK. The role involves preparing designs, performing analyses, and ensuring standards compliance on-site in the Limerick area.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, support concept design through to construction and commissioning, and contribute to design reviews and site meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (level 8 or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience in substations, grid connections, or HV infrastructure is beneficial.
• Solid knowledge of electrical engineering principles and safety standards.
• Familiarity with EirGrid, ESB and National Grid standards is preferable.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and HV design software such as ETAP, PowerFactory, CymCap, and Cableizer

Responsibilities

• Design and develop high voltage electrical systems for substations, grid connections, and renewable energy projects.
• Prepare electrical designs and layouts, perform calculations and analyses.
• Review specifications and drawings to ensure compliance with standards and client requirements.

Role Description

The Electrical Design Engineer will work on the design and development of high voltage electrical systems, contributing to projects such as substations, grid connections, and the connection of renewable energy installations in Ireland and the UK. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing electrical designs and layouts, performing calculations and technical analyses, reviewing specifications and drawings, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and client requirements. The role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary project teams, supporting concept design through to construction and commissioning, and providing technical input during design reviews and site meetings. The engineer will also assist with design documentation, risk assessments, and quality checks to support H&MV’s safety and environmental standards. This is a full-time, on-site role based in the Limerick Metropolitan Area.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong skills in Electrical Design and Design Engineering for high voltage and power systems for Ireland and the UK.
• Candidates should possess solid knowledge of Electrical Engineering principles and practical applications. .
• Candidates should possess an understanding of Electricity, including power systems behavior and safety standards.
• Candidates should possess skills in Power Distribution design and coordination within industrial, utility, or renewable projects.
• Bachelor’s degree (level 8, or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Experience with substation design, grid connections, or high voltage infrastructure is highly beneficial.Familiarity with EirGrid, ESB and National Grid standards is preferable
• Proficiency in relevant design and calculation software (e.g., AutoCAD, power system analysis software such as ETAP, Powerfactory , Cymcap and Cabelizer)
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and commitment to safety and quality.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate in a project-focused environment.
