Job summary

H&MV Engineering is seeking a Civil Structural Design Engineer in Ireland, with +4 years of experience in civil design and modelling for utilities, including HV cables routes. You will lead design elements, contribute to earthworks and ensure alignment with client specs, codes, and safety standards.

You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, mentor graduates, and engage with authorities to secure approvals, while delivering projects on time and within budget.

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• Experience in civil design, coordination and modelling for utilities.
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
• Proven report-writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

The role:

H&MV Engineering are looking for a Civil Structural Design Engineer with +4 years based experience in civil design, coordination and modelling relating to utilities and specifically HV cables routs including route alignments, trench sections, ducting, joint bays.

Role requirements:

• Leading the Civil and Structural Design elements of grid line projects using industry standard software and co-ordinating design with the in-house electrical design and construction / project management teams.
• Develop and review earthworks designs, including technical reports, levels, grading, cut/fill, SPA, working areas and platforms
• Ensuring civil and structural design elements for projects are in line with client specification, current industry guidance and codes of practice.
• Project Engineering; liaising with project managers and quantity surveyors regarding costing, planning and delivery of Civil & Structural elements.
• Ensure all engineering deliverables are undertaken in accordance with the company's design management procedures.
• Mentoring graduate engineers and ensuring their work is of a high standard.
• Specifying topographical and utility survey requirements, and attending site during the works to identify clashes and risks to the grid line.
• Engagement with local authorities/municipalities/utilities and third parties to ensure design is in accordance with planning requirements and gains sign off and manage the associated consent and approval requirements.
• Experience with utility design submissions and responding to design logs.
• Managing and responding to sub-contractor technical submissions.

Skills required:

• Level 8 or higher qualification in Civil Structural Engineering or related discipline.
• High level of computer literacy with proficiency in relevant software like Civil 3D and AutoCAD
• Knowledge of Irish/EU and UK/BS standards, DNO/IDNO requirements
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards achieving same.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a preference for verbal communication and management.
• Good communication skills and proficient with writing technical reports.
• Civil/Structural design experience and knowledge of underground utility design and coordination. Experience creating IFC level drawings and as-built information to industry standard.
• Critical thinking skills with aptitude for innovative design and value engineering.
• Experience of HDD or other trenchless technology is advantageous.
• Team player who demonstrates high level of initiative.
• BIM familiarity is also advantageous.
• Experience working in a multi-disciplinary project team to deliver industrial/commercial projects.
• Experience interacting with International clients.
• Experience in the HV electrical industry is a bonus.
• Full clean driving licence.
