Job Description
EHS Manager, Process Division will be responsible for leading, managing, and continuously improving all Environmental, Health and Safety activities across the Process Division. The role will oversee a team of approximately 24 EHS Advisors, ensuring consistent implementation of company EHS standards, legal compliance, risk management processes, and best practice across all projects and operational areas.
This is a key leadership role requiring strong technical EHS knowledge, excellent people management capability, and the ability to influence senior operational teams. The successful candidate will drive a proactive safety culture, support high-risk process-related activities, and ensure that EHS performance is effectively monitored, reported, and improved across the division.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the EHS function across the Process Division, ensuring alignment with company-wide EHS strategy, objectives, and performance targets.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of approximately 15 EHS Advisors, ensuring clear roles, responsibilities, performance expectations, and professional development plans.
- Provide visible leadership across projects and operational sites, promoting a positive and proactive safety culture.
- Support senior management in embedding EHS considerations into operational planning, project delivery, and decision-making.
- Develop and implement divisional EHS improvement plans, initiatives, campaigns, and behavioural safety programmes.
Compliance and Governance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, environmental, and welfare legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and company procedures.
- Maintain and improve divisional EHS management systems, ensuring effective implementation across all projects and sites.
- Lead internal audits, inspections, compliance reviews, and assurance activities across the division.
- Ensure corrective and preventive actions are identified, tracked, closed out, and communicated effectively.
Team Management and Development
- Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and direction to the divisional EHS Advisor team.
- Allocate EHS resources effectively across projects, ensuring adequate coverage and support.
- Conduct regular team meetings, one-to-ones, performance reviews, and development discussions.
- Identify training and competency requirements for the EHS team and support their continued professional development.
- Promote consistency in EHS advice, reporting, documentation, and site engagement across the team.
Reporting and Performance Management
- Prepare and present divisional EHS performance reports, dashboards, statistics, and trend analysis.
- Track leading and lagging indicators, including inspections, audits, observations, training, incidents, near misses, corrective actions, and environmental metrics.
- Identify performance gaps and recommend practical improvement actions.
- Ensure timely reporting of EHS data to senior management, clients, and corporate EHS teams.
- Support the development of annual EHS objectives, KPIs, and improvement targets.
Qualifications
Key Requirements
- Relevant third-level qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Professional EHS qualification such as NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH Chartered Membership (Level 7) or equivalent is desirable.
- Membership of a recognised professional body such as IOSH, IIRSM, or equivalent is preferred.
- Environmental qualification or experience in environmental management systems would be advantageous.
- Additional training in incident investigation, auditing, process safety, confined spaces, lifting operations, or behavioural safety would be beneficial.
Experience
- Significant experience in an EHS leadership role, ideally within process, construction, engineering, pharmaceutical, industrial, manufacturing, utilities, energy, or similar high-risk environments.
- Proven experience managing and developing a multi-person EHS team.
- Strong knowledge of EHS legislation, management systems, risk assessment, audit processes, and incident investigation.
- Experience working with senior operations teams and influencing site-based leadership.
- Experience managing EHS across multiple projects, sites, or workstreams.
- Demonstrated ability to improve safety performance and drive cultural change.
