Job summary

Concern Worldwide in Ireland is seeking a Donor Development Manager to lead the growth of the Individual Giving programme through insight-led fundraising campaigns and supporter engagement strategies. You will focus on increasing lifetime value and sustainable income to support humanitarian work.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in direct marketing, individual giving, fundraising, and management, with experience in managing campaigns and coordinating multi-channel activity.

Qualifications

  • At least three years’ experience in a direct marketing environment.
  • Experience in managing direct mail and email campaigns.
  • Line management of at least one person.
  • Demonstrable analytical skills and budgeting experience.
  • Experience with fundraising channels such as Cash appeals, Tax, Christmas Gifts, Raffle, Newsletter, Display, Social, Press, Radio.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver strategic projects that support the Supporter Marketing annual plan and analyze results to guide direction.
  • Line manage and coach the Supporter Marketing Executive with day-to-day tasks and performance reviews.
  • Oversee full campaign management from briefing agencies to copy development, approvals, and reporting.
  • Drive donor development activities to improve retention and giving levels across cash and regular giving.
  • Monitor budgets and contribute to future expenditure and income targets with the team.
  • Provide guidance on end-to-end campaign development, ensuring brand and regulatory compliance.

Full-time fixed-term 1-year contract (maternity cover - with flexibility to consider reduced hours where requested by the successful candidate and agreed with Concern).

Role Purpose:

The Donor Development Manager helps drive the growth and retention of the Individual Giving programme by developing insight-led fundraising campaigns and supporter engagement strategies that attract, inspire, and retain supporters. Through exceptional supporter experiences and data-informed decision-making, the role contributes to growing sustainable income, strengthening supporter loyalty, and maximising lifetime value, helping ensure Concern continues to respond to humanitarian crises, tackle extreme poverty, and create lasting change for communities around the world.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in direct marketing, individual giving, fundraising and management.

Responsibilities:
  • Deliver strategic projects, within key performance indicator targets, that contribute to the development of the Supporter Marketing annual operational plan. Consistently analyse results, interpret trends, and provide recommendations on strategic marketing direction. Create and implement tactics for donor development and cultivation.
  • Line management of 1 Supporter Marketing Executive; including training and coaching, day-to-day task delegation, supervision and performance monitoring and appraisals (to be confirmed)
  • Full campaign management and execution in line with prescribed deadlines. To include briefing of agencies, sourcing/development of materials, managing data selection criteria, copy development, managing the approvals process, proofing, briefing Donor Care Team, campaign analysis and reporting, managing costs and invoice processing.
  • Manage supporter development activity to improve supporter retention and giving levels of current cash and regular giving supporters using techniques such as direct mail, telemarketing, emails, and digital marketing.
  • Monitor and report on budgets and assist in building future expenditure and income targets. Work as part of the Supporter Marketing team to reach strategic targets.
  • Provide guidance to Supporter Marketing Executives on the end-to-end development and implementation of campaigns, ensuring alignment with brand standards, compliance regulations, and timeline constraints.
  • To work closely with the Data Analyst to review direct marketing campaigns and ensure that information is used to maximise income for future campaigns.
  • To ensure that campaigns are, where possible, integrated or co-ordinated thematically, creatively and/or by target audience to maximise impact.
  • To work closely with the Integrated Campaigns Manager and with the Supporter Marketing Team to implement, and where necessary review the Emergency Fundraising Strategy
  • To assist in the training of external agencies, effectively communicating the work of Concern to key representatives.
  • Work closely with Corporate Major Donors, Donor Care, Digital, Community, Communications, Overseas dept, Web, Active Citizenship, and other units to ensure integrated working and consistent messaging.
  • Undertake other project work as may be required from time to time.
Role Holder Requirements:
  • At least three years’ experience in a direct marketing environment.
  • Experience in managing direct mail and email campaigns.
  • Line management of at least one person.
  • Demonstrable analytical skills and highly numerate with experience of keeping and monitoring financial & budgeting reports.
  • Experience and knowledge of direct marketing recruitment and development techniques including Cash appeals, Tax, Christmas Gifts, Raffle, Newsletter, Display, Social, Press, Radio.
  • Experience of using a fundraising database for effective analysis of direct marketing campaigns and trend giving patterns.
  • Experience of working with external suppliers to deliver successful direct marketing campaigns.
  • Strong planning and project management skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written skills including experience of writing and commenting on fundraising copy.
  • Excellent organisation skills and experience of managing a varied workload.
  • Knowledge of GDPR regulations.
