Eos Talent has been exclusively retained to appoint a Business Development Director for an ambitious and growing healthcare organisation operating across the island of Ireland.
This is a newly created senior leadership appointment with a clear mandate: identify where the next phase of growth will come from and turn those opportunities into sustainable revenue.
Reporting directly to the Group CEO, the successful candidate will take a lead role in developing the organisation’s presence in the Republic of Ireland – building senior relationships, opening new markets, increasing penetration within existing services and identifying new opportunities across the wider healthcare landscape.
This is not a traditional sales role.
We are looking for someone who understands how to develop business in a complex healthcare environment – someone who can get into the right conversations, build credibility with senior decision-makers, spot opportunities and develop those opportunities from initial idea through to commercial reality.
The Business Development Director will work closely with the CEO, senior leadership team and Board to build and deliver a clear growth agenda for Ireland.
The initial focus will be across three key areas:
Build on an established position within home and community-based care by identifying opportunities to increase market share and deepen penetration across existing geographies.
Develop senior relationships with existing and prospective commissioners, identifying opportunities to expand services, secure additional business and strengthen strategic partnerships.
A significant part of the role will involve looking beyond the organisation’s existing business and identifying where it should grow next.
This could include developing opportunities across areas such as:
The successful candidate will identify emerging opportunities, develop propositions, establish the right relationships and progress new ideas and pilot initiatives capable of becoming meaningful new revenue streams.
Develop a strong network across the HSE and wider Irish healthcare ecosystem, establishing relationships with senior decision-makers, commissioners, healthcare leaders and potential strategic partners.
The Business Development Director will be a highly visible external representative of the organisation – ensuring it is part of the right conversations as healthcare delivery and models of care continue to evolve.
The Business Development Director will:
We are looking for a senior, highly credible business development leader with the ability to create opportunities rather than simply respond to them.
You will combine strong commercial instincts with exceptional relationship-building capability and the credibility to engage with senior healthcare stakeholders.
You are likely to bring:
We are deliberately taking a broad view of relevant healthcare experience.
Direct experience within homecare, community care, supported living or disability services would be particularly valuable, as would an established network across the HSE.
However, this is not limited to candidates from those sectors.
We are equally interested in senior business development and commercial leaders from areas including:
Of particular interest will be candidates who have developed strong relationships across the HSE, hospitals, clinicians or other senior healthcare stakeholders and can demonstrate how those relationships have translated into market development and commercial growth.
Direct HSE or homecare experience is therefore advantageous rather than essential.
The role will also have exposure to the organisation’s acquisition strategy.
The successful candidate will horizon-scan for potential acquisition opportunities, develop relationships with potential targets and work alongside the CEO and senior leadership team in assessing opportunities that could accelerate entry into new markets, services or geographies.
Previous M&A experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
This is an opportunity to build rather than inherit.
The successful candidate will have considerable autonomy to shape the business development agenda, determine where the organisation should focus its growth efforts and influence the commercial structure required to support that growth.
You will report directly to the Group CEO, with significant exposure to the senior leadership team and Board.
For an entrepreneurial healthcare business development leader who enjoys identifying opportunities, opening doors and building new markets, the scope to make an impact is considerable.
There is also genuine potential for the role to broaden as the organisation grows, including the opportunity over time to participate in a future CEO succession process alongside internal and external candidates.
Bonus: Performance-related
Benefits: Private healthcare and pension
Long-term incentive: Growth-share participation anticipated
The position will be based in the Republic of Ireland, with considerable flexibility around location.
This will be a highly external and relationship-led position rather than a desk-based role. The successful candidate will spend significant time developing relationships, attending industry and stakeholder meetings, identifying opportunities and representing the organisation across the Irish healthcare market.
