Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years' business development experience within construction recruitment, staffing, or workforce solutions.
  • Demonstrated success in achieving and exceeding sales targets.
  • Strong understanding of the construction industry and labour supply market.
  • Existing network of construction industry contacts.
  • Experience negotiating commercial contracts and preferred supplier agreements.
  • Excellent networking, relationship-building, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and financial acumen.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel.
  • Experience supplying blue-collar, white-collar, or skilled trades personnel.
  • Knowledge of labour compliance and workforce regulations.
  • Experience with CRM systems and sales reporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a strategic business development plan aligned with company growth objectives.
  • Identify and secure new clients across construction sectors.
  • Generate revenue through proactive prospecting, networking, referrals, and industry engagement.
  • Lead the full sales cycle from initial contact through negotiation, contract award, and account implementation.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling client presentations and proposals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers including HR Directors, Procurement Managers, Project Directors, Commercial Managers, and Site Leadership.
  • Develop long-term partnerships with existing clients to maximise retention and account growth.
  • Conduct regular client meetings and business reviews to identify additional staffing opportunities.
  • Act as the senior commercial contact for strategic accounts.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and construction industry developments.
  • Identify emerging sectors, projects, and frameworks suitable for business expansion.
  • Represent the company at industry events, exhibitions, networking functions, and trade associations.
  • Promote the company's brand and reputation within the construction sector.
  • Negotiate commercial agreements, pricing structures, preferred supplier arrangements, and service level agreements.
  • Ensure profitability targets are achieved while maintaining competitive pricing.
  • Produce accurate sales forecasts and pipeline reports.
  • Work closely with recruitment teams to ensure successful delivery of client requirements.
  • Support recruitment planning for major projects and framework agreements.
  • Mentor and support Business Development team where applicable.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and continuous business improvement initiatives.

Role Overview

As a Business Development Director in the construction staffing sector, the successful candidate will be responsible for driving revenue growth by identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities within the construction sector. This role focuses on building long-term relationships with contractors, developers, subcontractors, and infrastructure clients while expanding the company's market presence and achieving ambitious sales targets.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in business development within construction recruitment, staffing, or workforce solutions, with an established network and a proven track record of winning and growing major accounts. The Director will also oversee two sales staff.

Key Responsibilities
Business Development
  • Develop and execute a strategic business development plan aligned with company growth objectives.
  • Identify and secure new clients across construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, mechanical & electrical, residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.
  • Generate new revenue through proactive prospecting, networking, referrals, and industry engagement.
  • Lead the full sales cycle from initial contact through negotiation, contract award, and account implementation.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling client presentations and proposals.
Client Relationship Management
