Job summary

Associate Director - HV Substation Design at AECOM leads end-to-end HV substation design from concept through energisation on major energy infrastructure projects. The role requires coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams, driving lifecycle design from grid connections to detailed designs, and ensuring safety and quality in delivery.

Based in the UK or Ireland with a hybrid work model, the candidate will manage proposals, resource planning, and client engagement while mentoring junior

Qualifications

• Extensive consultancy/contractor/utility experience in energy
• Delivery of HV infrastructure design at concept, FEED and detailed design stages
• Strong understanding of electrical AC HV plant and equipment (AIS & GIS)
• Familiarity with National Grid standards and specifications
• Proposal and bid development leadership for Data Centre, HV infra or grid-connection projects
• Experience in design management and site construction review; primary plant focus essential
• Knowledge of Protection & Control, SCADA, transformers and HVDC systems advantageous
• Ideally CDAE/LCDAE approval

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end HV substation design from concept through energisation
• Direct technical delivery and monitor progress with engineering teams
• Coordinate interfaces between HV infrastructure and multi-disciplinary teams
• Apply lifecycle design experience from grid studies to detailed design
• Develop resourcing forecasts and programmes aligned to schedules
• Contribute to proposals, project cost monitoring and HV scope expansion
• Mentor junior engineers and build team capability
• Champion safety in design across HV deliverables
