Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronic, Electrical, Software, Mechatronic or related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in product development, R&D, electronics design, embedded systems, test/validation or design assurance engineering.
• Experience across the product lifecycle from requirements through verification, launch and sustaining engineering.
• Experience with hardware/software integration and structured technical investigations.
• Ability to read and critically assess schematics, circuit designs and PCB information.

Responsibilities

• Partner with R&D to contribute to product architecture, design decisions and technical reviews from concept through release.

Job description

An engineering role focused on design assurance, product development and technical problem-solving.

This is a hands-on product engineering role that reports into Quality while working closely with R&D and other departments across the product development lifecycle. The successful candidate will contribute to and influence design from concept through validation and launch, helping to ensure products are robust, reliable, testable and compliant.

The role is suited to an Electronic, Electrical, Software or Product Development Engineer who enjoys design review, technical analysis, validation and structured problem-solving.

Alongside the primary design-focused responsibilities, the engineer will provide targeted sustaining support for released products and help resolve complex product issues with Production, Test Engineering, Process Quality and Purchasing.

Core Design & Product Development Responsibilities

• Work as an engineering partner to R&D, contributing to product architecture, design decisions and technical reviews from concept through release.
• Review electronic schematics, PCB layouts, component selections, interfaces and hardware specifications to identify design risks and improvement opportunities.
• Assess hardware, firmware and software interactions, with particular focus on functional robustness, diagnostics, testability and design integrity.
• Lead or facilitate design risk assessments such as DFMEA, translating identified risks into clear design actions, verification requirements and objective evidence.
• Help define validation and verification strategies for new product introduction, including test coverage, acceptance criteria, traceability and investigation of unexpected results.
• Participate as a technical Quality representative in design reviews, product development meetings and design change assessments.
• Use statistical analysis of parametric production test data to evaluate design capability, variation, margins and emerging technical risks.
• Support root cause investigation of design-related failures and drive technically sound corrective actions back into the product design or verification approach.
• Promote continuous improvement in design practices, engineering standards, design review effectiveness and product quality metrics.
• Provide specialist technical support for complex product issues arising in Production, Test Engineering and Process Quality, maintaining a clear link back to R&D where design input is required.
• Support R&D and Purchasing with technical evaluation of new components and suppliers, focusing on technical equivalence, product risk and appropriate validation.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronic, Electrical, Software, Mechatronic or a related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in product development, R&D, electronics design, embedded systems, test/validation or design assurance engineering.
• Practical experience working across the product lifecycle, from requirements and design through verification, launch and sustaining engineering.
• Experience in hardware/software integration, engineering test or structured technical investigation.
• Ability to read and critically assess electronic schematics, circuit designs, PCB information and technical specifications.
• Good understanding of electronic hardware and its interaction with embedded firmware or software.
• Experience with embedded software, scripting, software testing or debugging tools would be an advantage.
• Experience with engineering risk tools such as FMEA and with structured root cause analysis.
• Ability to interpret test data, identify patterns and use statistical evidence to support engineering decisions.
• Strong technical judgement, curiosity and practical problem-solving capability.
• Clear communication and the ability to work effectively across R&D, Quality, Operations, Test and Supply Chain teams.
