Job summary

Collins McNicholas Recruitment represents an established medical device engineering company recruiting an experienced R&D / Design Engineer to join their design team in Ireland.

You will design and develop innovative medical products within a highly regulated environment, coordinating prototypes, documentation and supplier selection while driving multiple projects to completion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering (or related discipline).
  • 5+ years' experience in R&D / Design Engineering.
  • Experience with medical devices is advantageous but not essential.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Hands-on approach to design, prototyping and fabrication.
  • Ability to work within international medical device regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Design and development of new medical device products.
  • Product and process evaluation with documentation and records.
  • Selection of materials, components and suppliers.
  • Prototype fabrication and testing of products.
  • Liaising with customers and project managers on progress.
  • Provide guidance to junior colleagues and support continuous improvement activities.
  • Adhere to Health & Safety requirements.

Job description

Our client is an established and growing medical device engineering company providing a comprehensive range of development and manufacturing services, from initial design assessment through to the production of sterile finished products for the European and US medical device markets.

Due to continued growth, we are currently recruiting for an experienced R&D / Design Engineer to join their dynamic engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to work on the design and development of innovative medical products within a highly regulated and technically focused environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and development of new medical device products.
  • Product and process evaluation, including associated technical documentation and record keeping.
  • Selection of raw materials, components and suppliers.
  • Fabrication of prototypes and test products.
  • Liaising with customers and Project Managers regarding project progression.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to less experienced colleagues.
  • Supporting product and process continuous improvement activities.
  • Taking on other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
  • Adhering to all company Health & Safety requirements.
Candidate Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline is essential.
  • 5+ years' experience in a similar R&D / Design Engineering role is essential.
  • Experience working within a medical device environment is advantageous but not essential.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while adapting to changing business requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of projects and drive tasks through to successful completion.
  • Experience using a high-end CAD system, ideally SolidWorks.
  • A practical, hands‑on approach to product design, prototyping and fabrication.
  • Ability to work within strict international regulatory requirements applicable to medical devices.
