Job summary

GemPool Recruitment seeks a Data Center Technician to join the North Dublin operations team. You will be a hands-on IT professional supporting data center infrastructure, hardware troubleshooting and operational excellence in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include diagnosing hardware issues, maintaining critical systems, and supporting projects with engineers and operations teams. Knowledge of Linux/Windows admin and scripting is valuable.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with server, storage and networking hardware.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for complex technical issues.
  • Understanding of data center infrastructure including power, cooling, and rack systems.
  • Experience with structured cabling, patch panels and fiber-optic connectivity.
  • Basic to intermediate Linux and/or Windows system administration skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Experience working independently with minimal supervision.

  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot server, storage, and networking hardware.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and infrastructure issues within the data center.
  • Perform system health checks and preventative maintenance.
  • Support structured cabling, copper and fiber-optic infrastructure.
  • Maintain documentation for supported technologies and procedures.
  • Assist with asset management and equipment tracking.
  • Act as escalation point for junior technicians.
  • Provide technical guidance to team members.
  • Support remote system administration within a virtual team environment.
  • Automate routine operational tasks via scripting.
  • Execute small projects and contribute to larger local initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with data center safety and procedures.

Job description

Salary: €32,000 per annum (pro-rata for contract duration)

About the Role

We are seeking a Data Center Technician to join a leading technology client's operations team based in North Dublin. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on IT professional with experience supporting data center infrastructure, hardware troubleshooting, and operational excellence within a fast‑paced environment.

As a Data Center Technician, you will be a primary technical resolver for your support team, responsible for diagnosing and resolving hardware infrastructure issues, maintaining critical systems, and supporting data center operations. You will work independently on day‑to‑day technical issues while collaborating with engineers and operations teams on larger projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot server, storage, and networking hardware.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex hardware and infrastructure issues within the data center environment.
  • Perform system health checks and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Support structured cabling, including copper and fiber‑optic infrastructure.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for supported technologies and operational procedures.
  • Assist with asset management, inventory control, and equipment tracking.
  • Act as the first escalation point for junior technicians.
  • Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to team members where required.
  • Support remote system administration activities within a virtual team environment.
  • Automate routine operational tasks through scripting where appropriate.
  • Execute small technical projects independently and contribute to larger local projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all data center safety, security, and operational procedures.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Hands‑on experience supporting server, storage, and networking hardware.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Understanding of data center infrastructure, including power, cooling, and rack systems.
  • Experience with structured cabling, patch panels, and fiber‑optic connectivity.
  • Basic to intermediate Linux and/or Windows system administration skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Experience working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting equipment and working within data center spaces.
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools.
  • CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+, or similar certifications.
  • Previous experience in a data center, enterprise IT, or critical infrastructure environment.
  • Experience supporting remote administration tasks.
