Job summary

SSE plc is recruiting a Customer Data Specialist for Energy Customer Solutions. The role focuses on transforming datasets into actionable insights across Ireland and Great Britain, maintaining dashboards and data pipelines to support multiple teams.

You will manage data quality, build reliable data lakes, and deliver dashboards that translate complex data into clear business guidance for stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Degree in Data Science, Analytics, or related field with demonstrable experience managing large datasets.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL, Python or R for data extraction and modelling.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (or similar cloud platforms), Databricks, and semantic models.
• Familiarity with AI tools such as Databricks Genie to accelerate data workflows.
• Experience designing automated dashboards using Power BI for non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a complex data environment, ensuring data integrity and compliance with data protection policies.
• Deliver high-quality dashboards and reporting tools for insights into customer behaviour and market trends.
• Proactively incorporate additional internal and external datasets to enrich the data environment.
• Support measurement of KPIs and metrics to align with commercial objectives.
• Act as the data expert to maintain dataset visibility and promote a data-centric culture.

Base Location:You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations - Dublin, Reading, Cardiff or Glasgow

Salary: £35,200 - £52,800 or €49,400 - €74,200 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

As a Customer Data Specialist for Energy Customer Solutions, you will be responsible for transforming internal and external datasets into actionable insights across Ireland and Great Britian. This will require working with raw datasets of varying quality, building reliable, gold-standard datasets for modelling and analytical work. You will be responsible for keeping these datasets up-to-date, maintaining the connections that power the dashboards and reporting tools used by the directorate and the wider business.

You will be the expert source for data that will drive evidence-based decision masking, supporting product & propositions, marketing, communications, insights and sustainability teams.

You will

• Oversee a complex data environment, comprising both internal and external datasets, ensuring data integrity and that appropriate data protection policies are followed.
• Deliver high-quality dashboards and reporting tools that provide the team and wider business with insights into customer behaviour and market trends for strategic decision-making.
• Proactively look to incorporate further internal and external datasets to enrich the data environment, ensuring that all data is accurate and up to date.
• Support the measurement of key directorate KPIS and metrics, to ensure all activity is aligned with commercial objectives.
• Act as the data expert in the team, maintaining a clear view of available datasets and embedding a performance-oriented, data-centric culture across the directorate.

You have

• A degree in Data Science, Analytics, or a related field, supported by demonstrable experience managing large, complex datasets and data lakes in a commercial or marketing environment.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL, Python or R for data extraction and modelling, alongside hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure (or similar cloud platforms), Databricks, and semantic models.
• Familiarity with cutting‑edge AI tools, such as Databricks Genie, to assist in accelerating data workflows.
• Experience in designing and maintaining automated dashboards using Power BI, with a focus on translating complex data into clear, actionable insights for non‑technical stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple reporting streams in cross‑functional teams, working across multiple jurisdictions.
• An understanding of KPI‑based work environments, with the ability to leverage internal metrics (ROI. CPA, Churn, etc.) and external reports (e.g. CRU, Ofgem, etc.) to produce performance benchmarks.
