Job summary

Aramark Ireland is seeking a compassionate Patient Food Services Care Assistant in Galway. You will prepare, portion and deliver meals to patients, supporting their dietary needs with care, accuracy and hygiene. You’ll work with clinical teams to ensure safe food service and patient comfort, while maintaining infection control standards and documenting dietary concerns. This role requires flexibility across shifts and a patient-focused approach.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in food service, food preparation, or patient care environments.
• Knowledge of food safety practices and basic food hygiene principles.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift/carry items up to 25 pounds.
• Empathetic approach to patient care with a focus on dignity and respect.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Reliability, punctuality, and commitment to following established protocols and instructions.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and portion meals according to patient dietary requirements and medical specifications with precision and care
• Deliver meals to patients in a timely and professional manner, ensuring proper food temperatures and presentation
• Assist patients with eating and drinking as needed, providing support with patience, dignity, and respect
• Maintain strict food safety and hygiene standards in all food preparation and service areas in compliance with healthcare facility protocols
• Communicate effectively with patients to understand their dietary preferences and report any concerns to supervisory staff promptly
• Clean and sanitize food service equipment, utensils, and work surfaces according to established protocols and infection control standards
• Monitor and report on patient food intake and any dietary issues, allergies, or special requirements
• Support inventory management by assisting with stock rotation and organization of food supplies
• Respond promptly to patient requests and special dietary needs with a supportive and professional attitude
• Adhere to all healthcare facility policies, procedures, and infection control standards
• Work flexibly across varied shifts to support the continuous needs of patient care
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes
