Job summary

Caragh Precision Ltd, based in Parkmore Galway, is a medical device manufacturer with over 100 CNC machines. The CNC Machinist role involves programming, setting up, and overseeing multi-axis CNC operations to manufacture high-precision components for cardiovascular, structural heart, and orthopaedic applications.

You will work to exacting quality and safety standards, interpreting complex drawings and selecting appropriate tooling.

Qualifications

  • RequiresMechanical or Precision Engineering Diploma or qualified toolmaker/fitter.
  • Experience as CNC milling or sliding head lathe machinist.
  • Strong knowledge of CAM software, preferably Mastercam.
  • Familiarity with Fanuc, Hermle, Willimen and Citizen machines is advantageous.
  • Strong GD&T knowledge and experience machining medical-grade materials.
  • Strong maths and reading/interpretation of drawings; good communication and team skills.

Responsibilities

  • Program, set up and operate multi-axis CNC machines to manufacture medical device components.
  • Adhere to health and safety requirements and maintain quality standards.
  • Inspect materials, read drawings, and interpret specifications.
  • Create CNC programs to produce both one-off and mass-produced parts.
  • Select tooling and machining strategies; load raw materials and cycle the machines.
  • Train co-workers and maintain organized records and equipment.

Job description

Caragh Precision is a medical device manufacturing company and a leader in the manufacture of precision engineered products for the top global medical device companies. It has over 100 CNC Machining Centres and assists in all stages of the product lifecycle from concept realisation to manufacturing. Based in Parkmore Galway, it specialises in Cardiovascular, Structural Heart and Orthopaedics.

Role Description

A CNC Machinist operates and programmes computerised numerical controlled (CNC) machines. A CNC Machinist in Caragh is responsible for programming, setting up and overseeing the operations of multi axis CNC machines (e.g. Fanuc, Hermle, Willimen & Citizen) to manufacture medical device components under minimal supervision.

Main Duties
  • Adhere to company health and safety requirements
  • Inspecting materials and specifications
  • Creating, reading and interpreting drawings and specifications
  • Create CNC programmes to produce one-off and/or mass-produced components
  • Capable of selecting correct cutting tooling and machining strategies
  • Capable of selecting appropriate tool holding and work holding
  • Preparing and loading raw materials onto the machines
  • Cycles the machine, and detects malfunctions in machine operations, such as worn or damaged cutting tools
  • Achieving the required production levels
  • Communicates with and trains co-workers
  • Planning stock inventory and ordering parts
  • Conducting machinery checks on a daily basis
  • Responsible for maintaining quality and safety standards and procedures
  • Maintains a clean work environment, keeping records, and maintaining equipment
Requirements
  • A minimum of a Mechanical or Precision Engineering Diploma or Qualified Toolmaker or Fitter
  • Experience as a CNC milling or sliding head lathe machinist
  • Strong computer skills with a good knowledge of CAM software, preferably Mastercam
  • Familiarity with machines such as Fanuc, Hermle, Willimen & Citizen would be a major advantage
  • Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
  • Experience machining stainless steels, titanium, cobalt chrome and medical grade polymers would be an advantage
  • Strong maths/numerical skills
  • Excellent technical and analytical skillsHighly developed attention to detail and concentration
  • Excellent ability to read and interpret drawings
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong team player with the ability to train co-workers
