Job summary

NES Fircroft are partnering with a global power technology business to recruit a Civil & Structural Design Engineer – Team Leader for Dublin. You will lead the renewables design effort for grid and substation projects, coordinating between civil/structural and electrical teams.

You will manage design teams, interface with stakeholders, monitor budgets, and drive programs from feasibility through construction, with travel to sites as required.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• 10+ years’ experience in civil/structural design.
• Experience leading design teams on large infrastructure or renewables.
• Chartered status preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead renewable design projects from tender to on-site completion.
• Mentor and coordinate civil/structural design team.
• Engage stakeholders across project lifecycle (developers, authorities, networks).
• Plan and monitor costs, budgets and weekly P&L updates.
• Prepare tender documents and submissions.

Job description

Position: Civil & Structural Design Engineer – Team Leader

Location: Dublin, Ireland

Profile:

As a civil and structural design engineer – team lead you will be managing an engineering design team in the delivery of grid and substation design (20kV – 400kV) and all associated infrastructural requirements for renewable projects.

You will also manage the interface between electrical grid and substation design teams, coordinating timely information flows between both multidisciplinary teams ahead of the construction.

This is an office-based role which will also require occasional travel to site. You will be predominantly focused on the management of renewable design projects through various lifecycle stages (e.g. feasibility, design, planning, tendering, construction design support etc.)

• Lead and successfully manage renewable design projects, from tender to design completion, and through to completion on site
• Manage, and mentor and, co-ordinate the civil/structural design team personnel
• Deal directly and effectively with relevant stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle e.g. Renewable developers, Local Authorities, ESB Networks, GNI, Iarnród Eireann, landowners, legal profession etc.
• Develop, implement and monitor project costs, budget plans & programming (Update weekly P&Ls)
• Tender submissions - preparation of necessary documents for inclusion in tenders
• Manage project programme's for the duration of the design process, and through to required design supervision during the construction phase.
• Review design drawings during the design phase and prior to formal issues during the design process.
• Manage RFI schedules, through the design process.
• Actively co-operate with internal departments. HSQE, Design, Quality, Commercial regarding implementation of ISO 9001, ISO14001 & ISO 45001 procedures as required
• Travel to site when necessary for design meetings as required

Ideal Background:

• Ideally 10+ years’ experience
• Experience in managing design teams & delivery of large infrastructure, utilities or renewable energy projects
• Proficient with MS project, teams, excel, word, email, etc.
• Working knowledge of civil engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil-3D/REVIT, Tekla
• Degree qualified in Civil/Structural Engineering
• Chartership status is preferred
• Experience in a PSDP role
• Excellent leadership and communication skills
• Experience managing Client relationships from a pre works stage to project completion.
• Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills
• Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
• Demonstrate the ability to build strong working relationships with project team & stakeholders
• Experience of working on large scale utility projects would be preferred
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Good oral & written communication skills
• Full Drivers license
