Job summary

Gaia Talent seeks an Assistant Road Engineer in Limerick to join the Roads and Transportation team. The role supports delivery of road, public transport and active travel schemes from concept through detailed design, construction and client handover.

Based in a major infrastructure project office, you will work within a multidisciplinary environment to develop technical and project management skills while collaborating with clients, engineers, designers and other specialists.

Qualifications

• The candidate holds a degree in Civil Engineering and has relevant road/public transport experience.
• Experience with road, public transport or active travel projects is required.
• Proficiency with Civil 3D/OpenRoads/WinDes and MS Project is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support the technical delivery and project management of road, public transport and active travel projects.
• Coordinate inputs across multidisciplinary teams and ensure clear communication.
• Contribute to concept, preliminary and detailed design activities.
• Develop drawings, specifications, construction details and BOQs.

The Opportunity

A leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Assistant Road Engineer to join its Roads and Transportation team in Limerick.

The role will be based from a major infrastructure project office and will support the delivery of significant road, public transport and active travel schemes. You will contribute to projects from concept and preliminary design through to detailed design, construction and client handover.

Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will have the opportunity to develop your technical and project management skills while working closely with clients, engineers, designers and other technical specialists.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the technical delivery and project management of road, public transport and active travel projects.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary project inputs and ensure effective communication across project teams.
• Contribute to concept, preliminary and detailed design activities.
• Develop engineering solutions, drawings, specifications, construction details and bills of quantities.
• Support the preparation of tender and contract documentation.
• Assist with project budgets, fee proposals, programmes and resource management.
• Liaise with clients and stakeholders, helping to maintain strong professional relationships.
• Support technical reviews and provide engineering input throughout the project lifecycle.
• Assist in contract administration and site supervision where required.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety, environmental and quality requirements.
• Support and mentor less experienced members of the engineering team.

About You

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Relevant professional experience in road, public transport or active travel projects.
• Experience with TII, NTA or Local Authority procedures.
• Chartered membership of a relevant engineering institution is desirable.
• Understanding of DMURS, Traffic Signs Manual, Cycle Design Manual and TII design standards.
• Experience with Public Works Contracts, contract documentation, administration or site supervision.
• Knowledge of alignment and drainage design software such as Civil 3D, OpenRoads or WinDes is desirable.
• Strong stakeholder, client management and communication skills.
• Excellent organisational and IT skills, including MS Project.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and manage competing priorities.
