Job summary

WSP Ireland Roads team seeks an Assistant Engineer with post-qualification experience to work in Limerick on major national road and active travel projects, including the N/M20 Cork to Limerick. You will lead concept, preliminary and detailed designs and contribute to project management and client delivery.

The role is client-facing, requires coordinating multi-disciplinary input, managing budgets, and mentoring staff.

Qualifications

  • PM experience leading road/public transport/active travel schemes (TIA/TII procedures).
  • Experience with contract documents or contract administration/public works contracts.
  • Chartered member of a relevant engineering institution.
  • Experience with alignment and drainage design software (Civil3D/Open Roads/WinDes).
  • Strong communication and client management skills.
  • Proficient IT skills including MS Projects.
  • Knowledge of design standards (DMURS, Traffic Signs Manual, Cycle Design Manual).
  • Strong stakeholder management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects to coordinate multi-disciplinary input on road/public transport schemes.
  • Liaise with clients, developing trusted relationships and managing expectations.
  • Undertake project technical lead and reviewer roles.
  • Develop staff and mentor junior engineers.
  • Prepare fee proposals and manage budgets for projects.
  • Lead delivery of design drawings, specs and BOQs; support tender packages.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and QA standards.

A little more about your role…

The Ireland Roads team is seeking an Assistant Engineer with relevant post qualification experience qualification experience in the design and project management of road schemes and active travel schemes to work in our Limerick (N/M20 Project office). The team is growing and offers excellent opportunities for the right candidate.

The successful candidate will lead and help grow a team undertaking concept, preliminary and detailed designs for major national road schemes including the N/M20 Cork to Limerick Project, Public Transport schemes (including Cork BusConnects and Metrolink) and active travel schemes for the National Transport Authority and Local Authorities.

You will will be involved in the project management and technical delivery of schemes from inception through to the handover of the completed schemes to the clients. This role will primarily be client-facing and the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of delivery of schemes in either the local, regional or national transport arena.

  • Managing projects to ensure coordination and compatibility of multi-disciplinary inputson projects of varying scale, complexity and value.
  • Liaising with our clients, developing strong trusted relationships, proactively managing their expectations and comprehensively advising them.
  • Undertake project technical lead and reviewer roles
  • Using your technical ability and experience to develop our staff
  • Prepare fee proposals and manage budgets for individual projects.
  • Be responsible for the development and delivery of discrete and overall project solutions;
  • Lead and manage other staff members in the delivery of design drawings, standard construction details, specifications and bill of quantities, supporting the preparation of tender packages;
  • Responsible for compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation and inhouse quality assurance standards/processes;
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
  • Project management and technical delivery lead of Road or Public Transport/Active Travel schemes, with experience of Transport Infrastructure Ireland/National Transport Authority/Local Authority procedures essential.
  • Experience of contract document preparation or contract administration/site supervision using Public Works Contracts
  • A chartered member of a relevant engineering technical institution.
  • Experience or knowledge of alignment and drainage design software packages such as Civil3D/Open Roads and WinDes preferred, but not essential.
  • Good communication, client management and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Excellent IT skills including MS Projects.
  • A thorough understanding and application of current design standards including;Urban Street and/or Active Travel Design (i.e. Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets - DMURS, The Traffic Signs Manual, the Cycle Design Manual etc.), Highway Geometric Design (i.e. Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) Publications) and also TII and NTA Project Management Guidelines;
  • Strong stakeholder management experience
