Job summary

Gaia Talent in Dublin is seeking a Senior Principal Engineer to lead the Roads and Transportation team on major infrastructure projects. This role requires a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with 5+ years' post-qualification experience and a proven record in delivering road, public transport or active travel schemes.

You will manage design teams, coordinate stakeholders and ensure compliance with standards, driving high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' post-professional qualification experience in major road/public transport projects.
• Experience leading road, public transport or active travel schemes.
• Strong knowledge of DMURS, Traffic Signs Manual, Cycle Design Manual and TII standards.
• Experience with Public Works or NEC contracts, including contract documentation and administration.

The Opportunity

A leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Principal Engineer to join its expanding Roads and Transportation team in Dublin.

This is a senior technical and project leadership position for a Chartered or Incorporated Civil Engineer with extensive post-professional qualification experience in the design and delivery of major road, public transport and active travel schemes.

The successful candidate will contribute to major national infrastructure programmes, while leading design teams, managing clients and providing technical expertise across complex transportation projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery and project management of road, public transport and active travel schemes.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary project inputs across projects of varying scale and complexity.
• Act as technical lead, reviewer and design authority where required.
• Develop project solutions, technical reports, drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Lead and mentor engineers and design staff, supporting their professional development.
• Manage client relationships and proactively advise clients on technical and project matters.
• Coordinate external stakeholders including Local Authorities, government agencies and property owners.
• Manage third-party consultants and external contracts where required.
• Maintain design risk registers and participate in risk assessment workshops.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety, environmental and quality requirements.
• Provide technical input to multidisciplinary projects across transportation, development and environmental infrastructure.

About You

• Degree in Civil Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline.
• Chartered Civil Engineer or Incorporated Engineer with 5+ years' post-professional qualification experience.
• Proven experience leading road, public transport or active travel projects.
• Strong knowledge of TII, NTA and Local Authority procedures.
• Excellent understanding of DMURS, Traffic Signs Manual, Cycle Design Manual and TII design standards.
• Experience with Public Works or NEC contracts, including contract documentation, administration or site supervision.
• Strong stakeholder, client management and communication skills.
• Experience with Civil 3D, OpenRoads, MX or WinDes is desirable.
• Ability to manage deadlines, work under pressure and operate independently.
