Job summary

Jacobs is seeking Archaeologists for Dublin-based roles with hybrid work from the Sandyford head office. You will contribute to archaeological assessments, oversee mitigation during construction, and support environmental planning across Ireland with UK-friendly collaboration.

Requirements include a degree in Archaeology or related fields, fieldwork experience, and GIS knowledge. Travel to sites in Ireland and occasionally the UK is expected; strong report writing and teamwork skills are

Qualifications

  • Degree in Archaeology, Heritage Management, or a related discipline
  • Experience in commercial archaeology, consultancy, or heritage assessment
  • Experience in archaeological fieldwork and reporting
  • Knowledge of Irish planning and heritage legislation
  • Ability to travel across Ireland and occasionally the UK
  • Excellent report writing, analytical, and organisational skills
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and manage competing priorities
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Membership (or working towards) of a relevant professional body (e.g., IAI, CIfA)
  • Experience with GIS and spatial data analysis

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to assessments, reporting and data recording
  • Oversee archaeological and cultural heritage mitigation during construction and development works
  • Undertake Desk Based Assessments (DBAs) and heritage assessments
  • Site visits, walkover surveys, archive and topographic file visits
  • Prepare Cultural Heritage chapters of EIARs and coordinate with MDTs
  • Review and quality assure field outputs and reports
  • Collect, interpret and synthesise data from GIS and historic records
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams across projects
  • Provide support to UK-based teams as required

Your impact

As an Archaeologist, you’ll play a key role in delivering archaeological and cultural heritage services across a range of infrastructure projects. You will oversee mitigation, produce technical input, support environmental assessments and help ensure heritage considerations are effectively integrated into project planning and delivery.

At Jacobs, we’re growing our Archaeology & Heritage capability to support a strong pipeline of infrastructure projects across Ireland while also providing support to our UK teams. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of major infrastructure delivery in a highly collaborative environment.

We are seeking interest from Archaeologists to join our Dublin based team, hybrid from our Sandyford head office.

You will
  • Contribute to assessments, reporting and data recording
  • On-site archaeological and cultural heritage oversight during construction and development works to ensure compliance and oversee the execution of archaeological mitigation strategies and ensure archaeological works and mitigation measures meet professional standards, contractual obligations, and relevant guidelines
  • Undertake Desk Based Assessments (DBAs) and heritage assessments to support planning, environmental assessment, and project development
  • Undertake site visits, walkover surveys, archive and topographic files visits
  • Prepare and contribute to Cultural Heritage chapters of EIARs, including impact assessments, mitigation strategies, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams
  • Review and quality assure archaeological fieldwork outputs, including excavation reports, watching briefs, and surveys, ensuring consistency with internal standards and regulatory requirements
  • Collect, interpret, and synthesise data from multiple sources (e.g., GIS, historic records, previous investigations) to inform assessments and reporting
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams across infrastructure projects
  • Provide support to UK-based teams as required
Here’s what you’ll need
  • Degree in Archaeology, Heritage Management, or a related discipline
  • Relevant professional experience in commercial archaeology, consultancy, or heritage assessment
  • Experience in archaeological fieldwork and reporting
  • Knowledge of Irish planning and heritage legislation
