Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Highways Engineer to lead delivery across the full lifecycle of major highways and active travel schemes in Ireland and the UK. You will provide technical direction on complex projects, coordinate with clients and multidisciplinary teams, and help shape nationally significant infrastructure programmes.

Qualifications

  • A Level 8 degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status with Engineers Ireland or equivalent.
  • Thorough understanding of TII Publications, UK DMRB standards, and Active Travel standards.
  • Proven technical experience in major highway, local road, or active travel schemes, with knowledge of H&S legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of projects across the full lifecycle from feasibility to detailed design and implementation.
  • Provide technical direction across highways, junctions and active travel schemes.
  • Collaborate with clients, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to drive delivery and compliance.

About The Opportunity

In this role, you’ll lead the delivery of projects across the full lifecycle—from strategic feasibility and concept development through to detailed design and implementation. You’ll provide technical direction across a diverse portfolio including major highways infrastructure, complex junctions, and active travel schemes, ensuring high-quality, innovative and compliant design outputs.

You’ll work at the interface of clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams, providing trusted advice and driving collaboration across all stages of delivery. With major programmes underway for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), the National Transport Authority (NTA), Irish Rail, local authorities, and leading contractors, you’ll take a leading role in influencing nationally significant infrastructure and shaping the future of transport in Ireland.

Here’s what you'll need
  • A Level 8 degree in Civil Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer status with Engineers Ireland or equivalent.
  • Thorough understanding of TII Publications, UK DMRB standards, and Active Travel standards.
  • Proven technical experience in major highway, local road, or active travel schemes, with a sound knowledge of H&S legislation.
  • Experience in construction supervision and road safety auditing.
  • Familiarity with Building Information Modelling (BIM).
  • Understanding of H&S legislation.
