Job summary

Silgan Dispensing (formerly Weener Plastics) offers a 4-year Maintenance Fitter apprenticeship at our Dromcollogher facility. You will gain hands-on experience with lathes, milling machines, grinders, drilling and welding plants while learning to read technical drawings and perform plant maintenance.

Applicants must be at least 16, meet the minimum education criteria, and show ambition, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Must be 16+ years old
• Minimum educational requirements: Grade D in five subjects in Junior Certificate or equivalent
• Pre-Apprenticeship course completion or three years’ work experience from age 16 in a relevant industrial activity
• Previous experience in metalwork, physics, engineering, technology, mathematics and technical drawing/graphics advantageous but not essential
• Keen ambition for a career in this area
• All applications must meet minimal qualifying educational criteria
• Team player with good interpersonal skills
• Analytical approach to problem solving
• Self-motivated, high energy, initiative for timely completion of goals

Responsibilities

• Day-to-day maintenance duties in a busy manufacturing environment
• Work with lathes, milling machines, grinders, drilling machines and welding plants
• Knowledge of CNC and interpretation of technical drawings/diagrams
• Dismantling, repair, and fitting of new parts during plant maintenance
• Condition monitoring using modern maintenance techniques
• Report writing of completed repairs
