Job Title: Application Support / Production Support Analyst
Job Description
This Application Support role focuses on the day-to-day production support, stability, and operational management of Quartz applications and associated technologies such as Oracle, Informatica, Unix/Linux, Quartz AMPS, Opel Downstream, BOB Scheduling Tool, and QZ Release. The position requires strong technical troubleshooting skills, a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) mindset, and close collaboration with development, infrastructure, and business teams to ensure platform stability, observability, and service reliability in complex real-time and batch-processing environments.
Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations and production support of Quartz applications and associated technology platforms, ensuring stable and reliable services.
- Proactively identify potential production issues and create incident, problem, enhancement, or service tickets as required.
- Lead and coordinate production incident management activities, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, escalation management, and resolution.
- Provide end-to-end support for production services, covering Incident and Problem Management, Release and Deployment Support, Operational Readiness Reviews, Capacity and Availability Management, Application Monitoring, Service Analytics and Reporting, and Production Governance and Triage.
- Ensure production availability and performance service level agreements are consistently achieved, and promptly elevate risks or issues that require management attention.
- Support application releases, maintenance activities, and production change implementations, ensuring smooth deployment and minimal disruption.
- Identify operational vulnerabilities and opportunities for automation and continuous improvement to enhance reliability and efficiency.
- Develop operational metrics, dashboards, and reporting to drive service improvements and strengthen platform reliability.
- Create, maintain, and enhance operational procedures, support documentation, and knowledge transfer materials to standardise and improve support practices.
- Serve as an escalation point between business partners, application development teams, and management for complex production issues.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide off-hours or weekend support during critical production events, releases, and incidents.
- Drive operational excellence through the adoption of SRE principles, including automation, improved monitoring, observability, and proactive risk management.
- Analyse system logs and telemetry to diagnose issues and perform root cause analysis across multiple technology layers.
- Support and optimise batch scheduling and workload automation activities using tools such as the BOB Scheduling Tool and Quartz-based tooling for batch scheduling and job monitoring.
Essential Skills
- Proven production support experience in complex real-time and batch-processing environments, with a strong focus on application stability and service reliability.
- Strong technical expertise with Oracle databases and SQL for analysing and supporting application data and performance.
- Hands-on experience with Informatica for data integration and batch processing support.
- Advanced knowledge of Unix/Linux and Windows operating systems, including scripting and command-line troubleshooting.
- Practical experience with Quartz applications and Quartz AMPS, including batch scheduling and job monitoring.
- experience supporting and configuring Opel Downstream and QZ Release or similar release management tools.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Shell, Python, or Perl to automate operational tasks and improve efficiency.
- experience with batch scheduling and workload automation tools, including the BOB Scheduling Tool.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Dynatrace and Splunk to detect, diagnose, and prevent production issues.
- Strong understanding of Incident, Problem, Change, and Request Management processes and best practices.
- Ability to analyse system logs, monitoring data, and application traces to troubleshoot issues and perform root cause analysis across multiple technology layers.
- Willingness to work a second shift and participate in on-call and weekend support rotations when required.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure during major incidents.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Self-motivated and proactive, capable of independently driving issue resolution and process improvements.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to mentor junior team members and coordinate cross-functional teams during major incidents.
- Deep knowledge of production support practices, including incident, problem, and change management, aligned with an SRE mindset.
- Strong understanding of observability concepts and the use of monitoring tools to ensure application availability and performance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
