Job description

The Vacancy

Jennings O’Donovan Partners, a proud member of the RSK Group, are seeking an organised, meticulous, and tech-forward Accounts Assistant to join our head office team in Sligo, reporting directly to the CFO.

As JOD actively embraces Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital automation across our operations, this role offers a unique opportunity to work with modern tools, streamline routine transactional tasks, and focus on higher-value accounting operations.

It is ideal for an accounting technician or finance administrative professional who takes pride in data accuracy, maintains complete confidentiality, and is eager to grow into more senior finance roles over time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately log high volumes of financial data into accounting software, ensuring timely updates to sales/purchase ledgers, project logs, and internal databases.
  • Work alongside the finance leadership to implement and utilise AI tools and automated workflow features to streamline routine data entry, invoice matching, and daily administrative processes.
  • Perform detailed input of supplier invoices, match purchase orders, assist with scheduled payment runs, maintain the credit control/sales ledger, and support prompt resolution of supplier and client queries.
  • Maintain absolute discretion and compliance when handling sensitive data, including payroll records, employee expense claims, fee rates, and client financial files.
  • Assist with daily bank data entry, routine account reconciliations, and the maintenance of petty cash and foreign exchange records.
  • Rigorously verify, input, and audit employee timesheets and expense claims to guarantee accurate project costing across engineering assignments.
  • Assist senior accountants and the CFO with routine Revenue returns (e.g., VAT, PAYE/PRSI), audit preparation, digital archiving, and general finance administration.
Key Requirements
  • Accounting Technician qualification (ATI) or a Level 7/8 degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. Pursuing early-stage professional qualifications (e.g., ACCA, CIMA) is a strong advantage.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in a data entry, bookkeeping, accounts assistant, or finance administration role.
  • Fast and accurate keyboard skills, proficiency in Microsoft Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables), practical experience with cloud/ERP accounting systems (e.g., Sage, Oracle, CoreTime), and an open, adaptable mindset towards learning and leveraging emerging AI and digital automation technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive financial and personal data with complete discretion, adherence to GDPR/data protection guidelines, and professional integrity.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, exceptional organisational skills, strong numerical accuracy, clear communication skills, and an ambition to develop professionally within the business.
Why Join Jennings O’Donovan?
  • Strong CPD commitment, including coverage of professional membership fees, paid exam/study leave, and structured mentorship to support ongoing professional development.
  • Work in an environment that actively integrates AI, modern financial tools, and automation technology to remove administrative friction and build modern finance skill sets.
  • Modern, hybrid working arrangements to promote flexibility and work-life balance.
  • Contributory Pension Scheme, Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), and Bike to Work Scheme.
  • Free on-site parking in Sligo, collaborative team environment, and direct involvement in engineering projects that support a sustainable future.
