Job summary

Jennings O’Donovan is seeking a Civil / Water & Wastewater Engineer to join our growing team in a hybrid role. You will contribute to planning, design, and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, working with a multidisciplinary team on major Uisce Éireann initiatives.

The role requires a degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering and at least 5 years of consultancy experience, with proficiency in AutoCAD and hydraulic analysis.

Qualifications

  • Degree (Level 8 minimum) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience in an engineering consultancy environment involving water, wastewater and/or drainage projects.
  • Proven experience in civil infrastructure design, hydraulic analysis, and knowledge of Irish/UK standards.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver civil and hydraulic engineering designs in line with Uisce Éireann standards and industry best practice.
  • Prepare detailed calculations, including hydraulic modelling, pipe sizing, pump selection and network analysis.
  • Deliver feasibility studies, optioneering assessments, and preliminary designs during concept development.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • Mentor graduate engineers and technicians and contribute to CPD.

The VacancyWe are currently seeking a Civil / Water & Wastewater Engineer with experience in the planning, design, and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects to join our growing team. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of major Uisce Éireann projects while working alongside a multidisciplinary team of experienced professionals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver civil and hydraulic engineering designs in accordance with relevant Uisce Éireann standards, specifications, and industry best practice.
  • Prepare detailed engineering calculations, including hydraulic modelling, pipe sizing, pump selection, and network analysis.
  • Deliver feasibility studies, optioneering assessments, and preliminary designs during concept development stages.
  • Prepare route selection, site selection, and technical assessment reports.
  • Develop design drawings, engineering calculations, technical specifications, and supporting project documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation of design reports, planning applications, procurement documentation, tender packages, and contract documents.
  • Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Process, and Environmental disciplines, to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • Undertake site visits, condition assessments, asset surveys, and inspections, and prepare associated technical reports.
  • Utilise industry-standard design and modelling software to develop efficient, sustainable, and technically robust engineering solutions.
  • Support Senior Engineers and Project Managers in the successful delivery of projects throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Mentor and support graduate engineers and technicians while continuing to develop professionally through guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Maintain awareness of industry developments, emerging technologies, and evolving regulatory requirements within the water sector.
  • Ensure compliance with company Quality Management Systems (QMS), procedures, and project-specific quality requirements.
Key Requirements:
  • Qualification: Degree (Level 8 minimum) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience within an engineering consultancy environment, with demonstrable experience in the design and delivery of water, wastewater, and/or drainage infrastructure projects.
  • Technical Skills: Proven experience in civil infrastructure design, hydraulic analysis, and the application of Irish and UK engineering standards and guidance. Proficiency in industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, InfoWorks, Causeway Flow, MicroDrainage, Civil 3D, or equivalent is desirable.
  • Industry Knowledge: Working knowledge of Uisce Éireann standards, specifications, procedures, and self-lay requirements would be a distinct advantage.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Experience liaising with clients, local authorities, regulatory bodies, contractors, and other key project stakeholders.
  • Professional Skills: Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver projects to demanding timescales.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and technical presentation skills.
  • Professional Membership: Membership of Engineers Ireland or progress towards Chartered Engineer status is desirable.
