Job summary

AVLI Modern Greek Uluwatu is seeking a passionate Sommelier to lead our wine programme in a full-time role based in Badung, Bali. You will curate selections, provide expert recommendations, and drive tastings while ensuring top-tier service and guest engagement.

Qualifications

• Formal sommelier certification (Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET or equivalent recognised qualification).
• 3–5 years of professional sommelier or advanced beverage service experience in upscale hospitality establishments.
• Extensive knowledge of wine regions, grape varieties, production methods and flavour profiles across global wine markets.
• Demonstrated expertise in wine service standards, including proper handling, storage, temperature management and presentation.
• Fluency in English; additional languages are advantageous in our international setting.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and continuously update the wine and beverage list to complement our modern Greek cuisine and reflect seasonal offerings.
• Provide expert wine and beverage recommendations to guests based on their preferences, meal selections and budget.
• Conduct wine tastings and educational sessions for staff to ensure comprehensive product knowledge across the team.
• Manage wine inventory, including ordering, storage, temperature control and stock rotation to maintain optimal quality.
• Build and maintain relationships with wine suppliers, distributors and producers to source premium selections and negotiate favourable terms.
• Train and mentor bar staff and servers on wine service protocols, food and wine pairings, and customer engagement techniques.
• Ensure impeccable wine service standards, including proper opening, decanting, serving temperatures and glassware selection.
• Create engaging wine programme marketing materials and promote special events, wine dinners and tastings to guests.
• Monitor beverage costs, profit margins and sales performance whilst maintaining quality standards.
• Stay informed of wine industry trends, emerging producers and new releases to keep our programme competitive and innovative.

This is a full-time position based in Badung, Bali, where you will play a crucial role in elevating our guests' dining experience through expert wine and beverage knowledge. As Sommelier, you will be the cornerstone of our wine programme, responsible for curating selections, providing exceptional service, and building lasting relationships with our clientele. What we're looking for

• Minimum 3-5 years of professional sommelier or advanced beverage service experience in upscale hospitality establishments
• Extensive knowledge of wine regions, grape varieties, production methods and flavour profiles across global wine markets
• Demonstrated expertise in wine service standards, including proper handling, storage, temperature management and presentation
• Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate complex wine information in an engaging and accessible manner
• Strong organisational and inventory management capabilities with proficiency in beverage management systems
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment whilst managing independent responsibilities and decision-making
• Fluency in English; additional languages are advantageous in our international setting
• Passion for hospitality, continuous learning and staying abreast of wine industry developments
• Previous experience in Mediterranean or Greek cuisine establishments is preferred
