Job summary

Alcon's Packaging Engineering team seeks a Sr. Associate to design, develop, and optimize packaging solutions for medical devices. You will test materials, support prototype development, and ensure quality and regulatory compliance across packaging systems.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Regulatory and Supply Chain to transfer technology to production, qualify equipment, and uphold GxP and global labeling standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in packaging engineering, preferably in regulated manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of packaging materials (plastics, films, foils, paperboard, adhesives).
• Hands-on experience with packaging equipment, automation systems, and vision/inspection systems.
• Familiarity with IQ/OQ/PQ, design controls, and equipment qualification.
• Experience with CAD tools and engineering documentation (drawings, BOMs).
• Knowledge of GxP, ISO 11607, FDA 21 CFR Part 820, EU MDR, and other regulatory frameworks.
• Ability to perform risk assessments (FMEA, QRA) and apply quality control methodologies.
• Proficiency with statistical tools (e.g., Minitab) is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize packaging systems to meet functional, quality, and regulatory requirements.
• Lead or support root-cause investigations and implement improvements for packaging-related performance issues.
• Collaborate closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Regulatory, and Supply Chain to ensure smooth technology transfer to production.
• Oversee installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance readiness of packaging machinery and inspection systems.
• Integrate quality assurance and control requirements into packaging and process design.
• Create, review, and manage product artwork within the Artwork Management System.
• Support change control processes related to artwork, packaging, and labelling updates.
• Identify and implement improvements in packaging robustness, sustainability, cost, and manufacturability.
