Job summary

Maju Operations and Development in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, is seeking a Senior Gardener Staff on a contract basis to lead gardening and landscaping across our properties. The role involves supervising junior staff, designing plantations and hardscaping features, and ensuring sustainable maintenance practices.

We expect 5-7 years of gardening experience with 2-3 years in a supervisory role, plus strong knowledge of tropical plant species and landscape design.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of professional gardening and landscaping experience, with 2-3 years in a supervisory or senior role.
• Knowledge of tropical and subtropical plant species and climate considerations.
• Experience in landscape design principles and implementation.
• Ability to operate and maintain gardening equipment safely and effectively.
• Strong leadership and ability to train and manage staff.
• Knowledge of pest management and sustainable gardening practices.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills.
• Physically fit for outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
• Valid driver’s licence and reliable transport.
• Knowledge of local flora in West Nusa Tenggara is desirable.
• Fluency in Indonesian and English preferred.

About the role

Maju Operations and Development is seeking a Senior Gardener Staff to join our team in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. This is a contract position offering an exciting opportunity to lead and manage gardening and landscaping operations across our properties and facilities. As a Senior Gardener Staff, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, development and enhancement of our landscaped areas, ensuring they remain aesthetically pleasing, well-maintained and environmentally sustainable. This role carries significant responsibility for the visual appeal and ecological health of our grounds, making it integral to the overall presentation and operation of our facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and execute all gardening and landscaping maintenance activities across assigned areas
• Supervise and guide junior gardening staff, providing training, direction and support to ensure high standards of work
• Design and implement landscaping projects, including planting schemes, garden layouts and hardscaping features
• Maintain all garden equipment, tools and machinery in good working order, conducting regular maintenance and repairs as needed
• Monitor plant health and apply appropriate pest management and disease control measures using safe and sustainable practices
• Manage seasonal planting schedules and ensure proper irrigation, fertilisation and general plant care throughout the year
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, plant inventories and landscaping projects
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and environmental best practices in all gardening operations
• Liaise with management and clients regarding landscaping requirements, project updates and maintenance reports
• Identify opportunities for landscape improvements and cost-effective solutions to enhance outdoor spaces

What we're looking for

• Minimum 5-7 years of professional gardening and landscaping experience, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or senior role
• Strong knowledge of plant species, horticulture, soil management and seasonal planting practices appropriate to tropical and subtropical climates
• Demonstrated expertise in landscape design principles and the ability to conceptualise and implement creative outdoor spaces
• Proficiency in operating and maintaining gardening equipment, machinery and tools safely and effectively
• Proven supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to train, motivate and manage team members
• Excellent understanding of pest management, disease control and sustainable gardening practices
• Strong organisational and project management abilities with attention to detail
• Physical fitness and capability to perform manual labour and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation
• Knowledge of local plant species and environmental conditions in West Nusa Tenggara is highly desirable
• Fluency in Indonesian and English is preferred
