Plastic Injection Machine Engineer / Technician
We are seeking a skilled Plastic Injection Molding professional responsible for ensuring stable, efficient, and high-quality production through proper machine setup, process optimization, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will work closely with Production, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and Tooling departments to maximize productivity while minimizing defects, downtime, and production costs.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Setup & Process Control
- Perform mold installation and removal.
- Set and optimize injection molding parameters.
- Conduct machine startup and first-article approval.
- Monitor cycle time, machine efficiency, and production output.
- Ensure process stability throughout production.
- Perform machine changeovers within target setup time.
- Optimize cooling, clamping, and injection processes.
Process Optimization
- Improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Reduce cycle time while maintaining product quality.
- Minimize material consumption and scrap.
- Optimize:
- Holding pressure
- Holding time
- Screw recovery
- Back pressure
- Mold temperature
- Cooling time
- Clamp force
- Validate and document optimized process parameters.
Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve molding defects including:
- Short Shot
- Flash
- Sink Marks
- Warpage
- Burn Marks
- Silver Streak
- Flow Marks
- Weld Lines
- Air Traps
- Jetting
- Voids
- Black Specks
- Brittleness
- Dimensional instability
- Identify root causes using systematic problem-solving methods such as:
- 5 Why Analysis
- Fishbone Diagram
- PDCA
- CAPA
Mold & Tooling
- Coordinate mold maintenance.
- Report mold wear or damage.
- Recommend tooling improvements.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure products meet customer specifications.
- Conduct first-piece approval.
- Monitor SPC data where applicable.
- Support PPAP, FAI, and validation activities.
- Maintain process consistency.
- Reduce customer complaints through process control.
Maintenance Support
- Perform basic preventive maintenance.
- Coordinate machine repairs with Maintenance.
- Identify abnormal machine conditions.
- Ensure machines are operating safely.
Production Support
- Support production planning.
- Monitor productivity targets.
Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of:
- Machine parameters
- Setup sheets
- Process changes
- Troubleshooting reports
- Downtime reports
- Improvement activities
- Maintenance requests
Safety & Compliance
- Follow company safety procedures.
- Maintain clean work areas using 5S.
- Comply with ISO quality requirements.
- Follow environmental and waste handling procedures.
Additional Responsibilities for Engineer
- Develop standard molding processes.
- Lead process validation.
- Design experiments (DOE).
- Conduct capability studies (Cp/Cpk).
- Lead cost reduction initiatives.
- Introduce new molding technologies.
- Support new product introduction (NPI).
- Assist in mold design reviews.
- Train technicians and operators.
Additional Responsibilities for Lead / Supervisor
- Supervise technicians and setup personnel.
- Assign daily work priorities.
- Verify production readiness.
- Coach and mentor team members.
- Approve machine setup.
- Coordinate with Production, QA, Maintenance, and Tooling.
- Monitor KPIs including:
- OEE
- Scrap rate
- Downtime
- Cycle time
- Setup time
- Lead shift handovers.
- Investigate major production issues.
- Ensure SOP compliance.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Technician: 2+ years
- Engineer: 3-5+ years
- Lead: 5+ years in injection molding with leadership experience
