The Pharmacy Unit Supervisor is responsible for providing day-to-day operational leadership of the Pharmacy Unit, ensuring the safe, effective, and compliant delivery of pharmaceutical services that support optimal patient care. The role oversees pharmacy operations, supervises pharmacy staff, and promotes compliance with medication safety standards, pharmaceutical regulations, and quality management systems. Working closely with the Medical Support Manager and multidisciplinary healthcare teams, the Pharmacy Unit Supervisor supports continuous service improvement while fostering a collaborative and patient-centered pharmacy environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
A. Operational Leadership
- Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Pharmacy Unit to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality pharmaceutical service delivery.
- Coordinate pharmacy workflow, staffing, and operational activities to maintain service continuity.
- Monitor medication availability, pharmacy workload, and operational readiness, escalating issues where appropriate.
- Ensure pharmacy equipment, storage areas, and operational resources are maintained to support uninterrupted pharmaceutical services.
- Promote safe medication management practices throughout the medication-use process, including dispensing, storage, and handling of medicines.
- Ensure medications are dispensed accurately and in accordance with legal, professional, and hospital requirements.
- Support medication safety initiatives, including the identification, reporting, and investigation of medication-related incidents.
- Monitor compliance with safe storage requirements for medications, including high-alert and controlled medicines.
C. Regulatory Compliance & Quality Management
- Promote compliance with hospital policies, pharmaceutical regulations, accreditation standards, and applicable healthcare legislation.
- Support pharmacy quality improvement initiatives, audits, accreditation activities, and incident investigations.
- Maintain accurate documentation and pharmacy records in accordance with regulatory and organisational requirements.
- Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision, and support to pharmacy staff.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and patient-centred working environment.
- Support staff development through coaching, mentoring, competency assessment, and performance feedback.
- Coordinate daily staff allocation and shift coverage to ensure effective pharmacy operations.
- Collaborate with medical practitioners, nursing teams, and other multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to support safe and effective medication management.
- Maintain effective communication regarding medication availability, operational issues, and pharmaceutical service requirements.
- Escalate operational or medication safety concerns to the Medical Support Manager in a timely manner.
- Prepare and maintain pharmacy operational reports, documentation, and relevant records.
- Monitor pharmacy performance indicators and contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives.
- Participate in departmental projects, accreditation activities, and hospital commissioning initiatives as required
Selection Criteria
- Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy and Professional Pharmacist Qualification (Apoteker)
- Valid STRA and SIPA
- Minimum 5 years experience in a hospital pharmacy or equivalent healthcare environment
- Minimum 2 years experience in a supervisory or leadership role
- Knowledge in pharmaceutical regulations and professional standards
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Medication storage and inventory management skills
