  • Minimum 5 years experience in a Hemodialysis Unit or similar renal care.
  • Minimum 2 years in a supervisory/leadership role.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.

Job description

The Hemodialysis Unit Supervisor is responsible for providing day-to-day operational leadership of the Hemodialysis Unit, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centered dialysis services. The role oversees unit operations, supervises hemodialysis staff, and promotes compliance with clinical governance, infection prevention, and regulatory standards. Working closely with the Medical Services Manager and multidisciplinary healthcare teams, the Hemodialysis Unit Supervisor supports continuous service improvement while fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and patient-focused dialysis environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
A. Operational Leadership
  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Hemodialysis Unit to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality dialysis service delivery.
  • Coordinate patient scheduling, staffing, and workflow to maintain continuity of care and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor unit capacity, operational readiness, and service demand, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Ensure dialysis equipment, consumables, and treatment areas are operationally ready to support scheduled dialysis services.
B. Clinical Quality & Patient Safety
  • Promote compliance with hospital policies, dialysis protocols, and applicable healthcare regulations.
  • Ensure safe dialysis practices through adherence to infection prevention, patient safety, and clinical governance standards.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, accreditation activities, and incident investigations.
  • Monitor patient safety risks and support appropriate responses to dialysis-related emergencies.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision, and support to hemodialysis staff.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and patient-centered working environment.
  • Support staff development through coaching, mentoring, competency assessment, and performance feedback.
  • Coordinate daily staff allocation and shift coverage to maintain safe and effective dialysis operations.
  • Collaborate with nephrologists, nursing teams, laboratory, pharmacy, dietitians, biomedical engineering, and other multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to support coordinated patient care.
  • Maintain effective communication regarding patient care requirements, operational issues, and service delivery.
  • Escalate operational or clinical concerns to the Medical Services Manager in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and maintain operational reports, departmental documentation, and relevant records.
  • Monitor Hemodialysis Unit performance indicators and contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in departmental projects, accreditation activities, and hospital commissioning initiatives as required.
Selection Criteria
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Ners) or another relevant healthcare discipline.
  • Valid STR
  • Valid and active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Certified Hemodialysis Training
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a Hemodialysis Unit or equivalent renal care setting
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a supervisory or leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams within a healthcare environment
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
