Job summary

Aspen Medical is seeking an Outpatient Unit Supervisor to provide day-to-day operational leadership for the ambulatory unit, ensuring safe, efficient, and patient-centered care. You'll supervise nursing and support staff, coordinate appointments and clinic flow, and partner with multidisciplinary teams to uphold governance and quality standards.

The ideal candidate has a nursing degree, valid STR, BLS, and at least 5 years in outpatient settings with 2+ years in a supervisory role, plus strong

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Ners).
  • Valid STR.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in outpatient nursing, ambulatory care, or another relevant healthcare setting.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional working proficiency in English is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Outpatient Unit to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality ambulatory care services.
  • Coordinate patient appointments, clinic workflow, staffing, and daily operational activities to optimise service delivery.
  • Monitor clinic capacity, patient flow, waiting times, and operational readiness, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Ensure consultation rooms, clinical equipment, and operational resources are maintained to support uninterrupted outpatient services.
  • Promote compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and applicable healthcare regulations.
  • Ensure safe nursing practices through adherence to clinical governance, infection prevention, and patient safety standards.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, accreditation activities, and incident investigations.
  • Monitor patient safety risks and support appropriate responses to clinical incidents occurring within the outpatient setting.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision, and support to outpatient nursing and support staff.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and patient-centered working environment.
  • Support staff development through coaching, mentoring, competency assessment, and performance feedback.
  • Coordinate daily staff allocation and clinic coverage to maintain safe and effective outpatient operations.
  • Collaborate with medical practitioners, allied health professionals, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, and other multidisciplinary teams to support coordinated patient care.
  • Maintain effective communication regarding clinic operations, patient care requirements, and service delivery.
  • Escalate operational or clinical concerns to the Nursing Manager in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and maintain operational reports, departmental documentation, and relevant records.
  • Monitor outpatient performance indicators and contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in departmental projects, accreditation activities, and hospital commissioning initiatives as required.

Job description

The Outpatient Unit Supervisor is responsible for providing day-to-day operational leadership of the Outpatient Unit, ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and patient-centred ambulatory care services. The role oversees outpatient operations, supervises nursing and support staff, and promotes compliance with clinical governance, patient safety, and regulatory standards. Working closely with the Nursing Manager and multidisciplinary healthcare teams, the Outpatient Unit Supervisor supports continuous service improvement while fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and service-oriented outpatient environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
A. Operational Leadership
