Job summary

Forest Carbon is seeking a field-based Community Development Lead in Indonesia to drive community programs, FPIC processes, and stakeholder engagement in line with HQ frameworks.

You will collect village data, map stakeholders, report on field activities, and lead a team to ensure timely, compliant delivery while addressing community needs and safeguarding relationships with local governments and partners.

Job description

Lead the implementation of community development programs and stakeholder engagement at the project site, ensuring alignment with the company’s frameworks, certification requirements, and community needs. This role is responsible for managing community engagement activities, facilitating the Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC/PADIATAPA) process, and ensuring effective coordination between local communities, the field project team, the Program Management team, and the Community function at Headquarters (HQ).

Key Responsibilities
Community Development Program Implementation
  • Lead the implementation of key community development programs, including livelihoods, health, and education, at the project site in accordance with the strategies and frameworks established by the Community team at HQ.
  • Develop and manage site-level work plans to ensure the timely implementation of community development activities.
  • Monitor the progress and effectiveness of community development programs and recommend adjustments based on field conditions.
  • Provide input to relevant HQ teams on community needs, social dynamics, and opportunities for program development based on field observations and conditions.
Community Engagement and FPIC Implementation
  • Lead the implementation of the Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC/PADIATAPA) process in collaboration with communities and relevant stakeholders.
  • Facilitate community consultations, meetings, and workshops to ensure inclusive participation in project activities.
  • Ensure that community engagement activities are conducted in accordance with company standards and certification requirements.
Stakeholder Relationship Management
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with village governments, community leaders, and other local stakeholders.
  • Identify potential social issues or conflicts that may affect project activities.
  • Support communication between communities, the project team, and external stakeholders, including through the management and implementation of the community grievance mechanism.
Community Data, Documentation, and Reporting
  • Lead the collection and analysis of community socioeconomic data, including village profiling and stakeholder mapping.
  • Accurately document community consultations, meetings, and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Prepare reports and updates on community development activities and FPIC implementation.
  • Provide field-based insights and recommendations to relevant HQ teams and the Field Manager.
Team Leadership and Coordination
  • Lead and supervise the field Community team to ensure effective implementation of programs in line with project plans.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to team members to strengthen their capacity, coordination, and work discipline.
  • Coordinate with relevant teams and escape community-related issues or risks to management and HQ teams.
