Job summary

PT Samudera Caraka Jasa is seeking a Business Development professional to identify and win new freight forwarding clients on the Indonesia–USA lane. You will craft strategies to grow sea/air/multimodal volumes and lead proposals and pricing discussions with overseas partners.

You will also manage key accounts, resolve service issues, monitor market trends, and coordinate with operations and finance to optimize revenue and customer satisfaction across time zones.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2–4 years in business development within freight forwarding, logistics, or shipping.
  • Strong understanding of international freight forwarding processes and documentation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.

Job description

Business Development (Freight Forwarding)

Identify, prospect, and acquire new clients requiring freight forwarding services on the Indonesia–USA trade lane, including exporters, importers, manufacturers, and trading companies.

Develop and execute a structured sales strategy to grow sea freight, air freight, and multimodal shipment volumes on the USA corridor.

Conduct cold calling, field visits, networking, and industry events to generate new business leads.

Prepare and present competitive proposals, rate quotations, and service solutions tailored to client needs on the USA trade lane.

Negotiate contracts, service agreements, and pricing with clients and overseas agents/partners.

Monitor and achieve monthly and annual sales targets for USA shipment volumes and revenue.

2. Account Management & Client Retention

Maintain and grow relationships with existing clients shipping to/from the USA, ensuring high service satisfaction and loyalty.

Conduct regular business reviews with key accounts to identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities.

Act as the primary point of contact for clients on all matters related to USA shipments.

Proactively address and resolve client concerns, shipment issues, and service disruptions in coordination with the operations team.

Monitor and analyze USA trade lane market trends, competitor activities, freight rate movements, and regulatory changes affecting Indonesia–USA shipments.

Provide insights and recommendations to management on market opportunities and threats on the USA corridor.

Build and maintain relationships with overseas agents, NVOCC partners, and co-loaders in the USA to strengthen service capabilities.

Stay updated on US customs regulations, import/export compliance requirements, and trade policy developments affecting Indonesia–USA trade.

Track key commodities flowing between Indonesia and the USA (e.g., furniture, garments, rubber, electronics, palm oil derivatives) and identify potential client segments.

4. Reporting & Coordination

Prepare weekly and monthly sales reports, pipeline updates, and shipment volume forecasts for management review.

Coordinate closely with the Operations, Customer Service, and Documentation teams to ensure smooth shipment execution for USA-bound cargo.

Liaise with the Finance team on credit terms, invoicing, and accounts receivable for USA shipment clients.

Collaborate with overseas agents and USA-based partners on rate negotiations, co-loading arrangements, and service improvements.

Requirements:

Minimum 2–4 years of experience in business development within the freight forwarding, logistics, or shipping industry.

Strong understanding of international freight forwarding processes including sea freight (FCL/LCL), air freight, customs clearance, and documentation.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and CRM systems.

Excellent communication and negotiation skills in both Bahasa Indonesia and English.

Strong networking and relationship-building abilities.

Self-motivated, target-driven, and able to work independently.

Good analytical thinking to interpret market data and identify business opportunities.

Ability to work across time zones when coordinating with USA-based partners and clients.
