• 5+ years of backend engineering experience in fast-paced product environments.
• Experience building and maintaining microservices architectures and production observability.
• Fluent in PHP (Laravel), NodeJS, and Golang; proficient with MySQL.
• Knowledge of caching systems (Redis, Memcached), search (ElasticSearch), and event-driven architecture (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Familiar with API Gateway, CI/CD, TDD, Docker, Git Flow, and Linux development.
• Able to analyze logs, debug production issues, and balance engineering trade-offs under pressure.
• Strong communication, collaboration across teams, and proactive ownership.
• Experience integrating with 3rd party systems or vendors.

Responsibilities

• Own backend architecture and development for monolithic and microservices components including APIs and integrations.
• Benchmark, refactor, and improve performance and reliability of core services and data stores.
• Provide technical leadership, review code to high standards, and guide architectural direction.
• Collaborate with PMs, QA, Infra/DevOps to align solutions with business goals and operations.

We’re looking for a Backend Engineer who is ready to own complex systems, lead architecture decisions, mentor others, and drive lasting technical impact across our app and services.

What You’ll Own

• Backend Architecture & Development: Develop, design and maintain robust backend systems (monolithic and microservices), including API development and third-party integrations.
• Performance Optimization: Benchmark, refactor, and proactively improve performance and reliability of core backend services, caching layers, and data stores.
• Technical Leadership: Make sound technical decisions, review code at a high standard, guide architectural direction, and elevate team-wide engineering practices.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with PMs, QA, Infra/DevOps, and stakeholders to align technical solutions with business outcomes. And also supporting business operations.
• Mentorship & Team Growth: Actively coach junior and mid-level engineers, participate in hiring and interviews, and foster a culture of quality, speed, and ownership.

What Success Looks Like (6–12 Months)

• Owns high-impact backend systems, ensuring they’re reliable, scalable, and well-documented
• Makes key architectural decisions that reduce tech debt and support product velocity
• Coaches junior/mid engineers to greater independence and technical judgment
• Leads the successful delivery of features and infrastructure projects, including planning, estimation, and stakeholder communication
• Supports incident response and actively improves system observability and monitoring
• Participates in hiring by contributing to interviews, onboarding, and engineering culture-building

Requirements

You’re a Fit If You…

• Have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally in fast-paced product environments
• Have hands-on experience with building and maintaining microservices architectures, performance tuning, and implementing monitoring and observability in production environments
• Fluent in PHP (Laravel), NodeJS, and Golang, and experienced with MySQL
• Understand caching systems (Redis, Memcached), search (ElasticSearch), and event-driven architecture (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Are familiar with API Gateway, CI/CD, TDD, Docker, Git Flow, and Linux development
• Know how to analyze logs, debug production issues, and make smart trade-offs under pressure
• Can balance engineering best practices with pragmatic decision-making when trade-offs are necessary
• Communicate clearly across teams, give and receive feedback well, and take initiative without waiting to be told
• Open to feedback, and know when to listen, when to challenge, and when to stand firm
• Care about building systems that are both technically sound and solve real user problems
• Experienced in integrating with 3rd party systems or vendors
