Job summary

JALA in Indonesia invites an experienced Field Assistant to support vannamei shrimp farming operations in Lalombi, Central Sulawesi, following SOPs.

You will monitor water quality with Baruni, assist in feed management and record FCR, observe shrimp health, and help farmers through pond prep, stocking, maintenance, and harvesting. Strong observation, data recording, and communication with farmers are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Fisheries/Aquaculture and 1+ year shrimp farming experience.
• Strong understanding of vannamei shrimp farming.
• Ability to measure and interpret pond water quality.
• Willing to be based in Lalombi, Central Sulawesi.

Responsibilities

• Support daily operations of vannamei shrimp farming ponds per SOPs.
• Perform water quality monitoring using Baruni instrument.
• Assist in feed management and record FCR.
• Monitor shrimp growth, health, and mortality.
• Assist in pond prep, fry stocking, maintenance, and harvesting.
• Explain JALA App usage and data recording to farmers.
• Assist with financial calendars and workload-income balance.
• Prepare periodic reports for the Project Officer.

Job description

• Support the daily operations of the vannamei shrimp farming pond in accordance with established SOPs.
• Perform regular water quality monitoring (temperature, pH, salinity, clarity, and other basic parameters) using the Baruni water quality instrument.
• Assist in implementing feed management, including setting feeding schedules, observing feed response (ANCO), and recording FCR to achieve feed efficiency targets.
• Periodically check shrimp conditions (growth, health, and mortality).
• Assist farmers through all phases of cultivation, from pond preparation, fry stocking, maintenance, and harvesting.
• Provide understanding of the JALA App and accurate data recording to traditional farmers.
• Assist farmers in completing financial calendars and happy family trees to ensure a balance between workload and income.
• Prepare periodic reports on the shrimp farming process for the Project Officer.

Skills & Capabilities

• Resident or willing to be based in Lalombi, Central Sulawesi.
• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Fisheries/Aquaculture with a strong understanding of vannamei shrimp farming. Minimum 1 year of experience as a Field Assistant and/or Technical Assistant in a shrimp farming pond.
• Understanding of traditional and semi-intensive shrimp farming practices.
• A sound understanding of shrimp farming, including potential problems and their solutions.
• Basic skills in measuring and interpreting pond water quality parameters.
• Able to conduct thorough field observations and record data neatly and consistently.
• A basic understanding of shrimp feed management and feeding behavior.
• Able to work independently with high mobility in the project area.
• Effective communication skills to coordinate with traditional shrimp farmers, community leaders, and technicians.
