The Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Kwun Tong), under the Department of Business of the Vocational Training Council, invites applications for a Term Lecturer in Media Relations and Journalism. The role involves teaching, curriculum development, and industry engagement across campus and external activities.

Requirements include a recognised degree in Business Administration, Journalism or Communications, at least 3 years of relevant teaching/industry experience, and strong English

Qualifications

• Recognised degree in Business Administration, Journalism or Communications, preferably with a post-graduate qualification.
• At least 3 years’ relevant teaching/industry experience in Journalism or Communications.
• Good understanding of VPET education.
• Knowledge/experience in curriculum and new module development.
• Excellent communication, teaching and presentation skills with high proficiency in English and Chinese including Putonghua.

Major Duties

• (a) To perform teaching duties including supervision of student projects and fieldwork placement;
• (b) To carry out duties in relation to student and academic administration;
• (c) To develop programme curriculum and teaching, learning and assessment material;
• (d) To assist in validation and accreditation of programmes; and
• (e) To participate in networking with industry / industrial attachments, departmental projects and functions including but not limited to consultancy services, research studies, seminars and exhibitions.

Requirements

• (a) A recognised degree in Business Administration, Journalism or Communications, preferably with a post‑graduate qualification;
• (b) At least 3 years’ relevant teaching / industry experience in Journalism or Communications;
• (c) Good understanding of VPET education;
• (d) Preferably with knowledge and experience in curriculum and new module development;
• (e) Good communication, teaching and presentation skills and a high level of proficiency in both English and Chinese, including Putonghua; and
• (f) Proficiency in Putonghua:
• (i) Mother tongue / language is Putonghua; OR
• (ii) Received a bachelor’s degree or above of which the medium of instruction was Putonghua; OR
• (iii) Have at least 3 years’ work experience in the Mainland or other Putonghua speaking countries or regions; OR
• (iv) Attainment of Grade 3B or above at the Putonghua Shuiping Ceshi (PSC) - Putonghua Proficiency Test administered by the State Commission on Language Work.

• (1) Applicants with substantial experience and achievements in the relevant field but without the required academic / professional qualifications OR those with exceptional academic / professional qualifications but with less experience may also apply.
• (2) The initial posting is in the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Kwun Tong).
• (3) Shortlisted candidates will be required to take a written assessment.
• (4) The appointee(s) may be required to perform duties in different locations, outside normal working hours and/or outside campus.
