Job summary

The Vocational Training Council (VTC) Language Centre invites applicants for the position of Term Assistant Lecturer in English and Communication. The role covers teaching duties, supervision of student projects, and contributing to student and academic administration.

You will help develop curricula, organise language enhancement activities, and participate in centre projects and functions. Shortlisted candidates may face a written assessment; the closing date is 9 November 2026.

Qualifications

• A recognised degree in English Language / related field, or a non-relevant degree plus a recognised English teaching qualification such as PGCE/ Dip in Education (English), TESOL/ CELTA or TESL certification.
• A transcript with course details including hours of instruction and practicum should be provided for consideration.
• Good communication, presentation and digital skills.
• A good team player, able to work on own initiative and meet challenges.

Major Duties

Requirements

• (a) (i) A recognised degree in English Language / English Language and Literature / Language Studies (English) / Linguistics / Education (English) / English Communication / Translation (English); OR
• (ii) A recognised degree in a non-relevant field; AND a relevant English teaching qualification, such as Postgraduate Certificate / Diploma in Education (major in English), Teaching English as a Second Language or Teaching English as a Foreign Language or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA / Trinity CertTESOL and English-teaching certification recognised by TESL Canada) or English for Specific Purposes (ESP). A transcript with course details including the number of hours of instruction and practicum should be provided for consideration;
• (b) Good communication, presentation and digital skills; and
• (c) A good team player, able to work on own initiative and willing to meet challenges.

Notes

• (1) The post is at the rank of Teaching Associate.
• (2) Applicants with substantial experience and achievements in the relevant field but without the required academic / professional qualifications OR those with exceptional academic / professional qualifications but with less experience may also apply.
• (3) Preference will be given to candidates who have relevant teaching experience.
• (4) Shortlisted applicants will be required to take a written assessment.
• (5) In support of the Sexual Conviction Record Check (SCRC) Scheme launched by the Hong Kong Police Force, all prospective appointees will be requested to undergo the SCRC at the advanced stage of the employment process.

The VTC Languages Discipline oversees the operation of 17 Language Centres (LCs) located on all IVE / HKDI / HKIIT / YC campuses and the Language Section of HTI/CCI/ICI. If candidates apply to more than one LC for the post of Term Assistant Lecturer and are shortlisted, they may be invited to attend an interview conducted by one LC only. Application forms received by one LC may be passed to another LC for appointment purposes.
