About the Role!
We are looking for an experienced, independent and hands-on HR Senior Executive to manage the full spectrum of HR matters for our Hong Kong operations.
As the principal HR contact in Hong Kong, you will advise employees and managers, manage employee relations matters, support compensation decisions, lead local recruitment and execute performance and talent processes.
You must be comfortable moving between strategic HR judgement and hands-on execution. This includes advising management on a sensitive employee grievance, assessing a salary proposal, guiding a manager through underperformance and personally managing recruitment or employment documentation.
You will operate within the Group’s HR policies and governance frameworks while taking ownership of day-to-day Hong Kong HR decisions, recommendations and delivery. Material, precedent-setting or higher-risk matters will be escalated to the Group HR.
Key Responsibilities:
1. HR Leadership and Business Partnership
- Serve as the principal HR contact for Hong Kong employees and management.
- Independently provide practical and commercially balanced HR advice.
- Understand business and workforce needs and translate them into appropriate HR actions.
- Identify people, conduct and employment risks early and recommend practical solutions.
- Take ownership of matters from initial assessment through resolution and documentation.
- Work closely with the Group HR to maintain alignment with Group policies, governance standards and regional priorities.
- Escalate material, legally sensitive or precedent-setting matters with a clear assessment and recommended course of action.
2. Employee Relations and Performance Management
- Independently manage employee grievances, conduct concerns, disciplinary matters, workplace complaints and other employee relations cases.
- Conduct fair, objective and confidential workplace investigations.
- Advise managers on performance concerns, feedback, documentation and appropriate corrective action.
- Manage performance improvement plans and underperformance cases from initiation through conclusion.
- Ensure that decisions are supported by facts, proper documentation, procedural fairness and applicable Hong Kong requirements.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality and complete case records.
3. Compensation, Benefits and Annual Review
- Advise management on salaries for new hires, salary adjustments, promotions and retention cases.
- Develop and assess compensation proposals using market data, role scope, employee level, internal equity, performance and affordability.
- Independently prepare clear and evidence-based compensation recommendations for approval.
- Support Group HR in designing and enhancing the Group’s performance and compensation frameworks, and independently lead their implementation for Hong Kong in accordance with agreed governance and timelines.
- Review managers’ performance assessments and recommendations for consistency, evidence and appropriate differentiation.
- Guide managers on goal setting, performance ratings, promotion readiness and reward decisions.
- Administer Hong Kong benefits, insurance, MPF and other local benefit arrangements.
- Support local implementation and employee communication of the Group’s reward programmes.
4. Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning
- Manage end-to-end recruitment for Hong Kong positions, from job scoping through offer acceptance and onboarding.
- Advise hiring managers on role requirements, candidate quality, job level and market positioning.
- Independently assess candidates and provide clear recommendations to management.
- Manage salary discussions and offer negotiations within approved parameters.
- Maintain effective recruitment channels and external talent networks.
- Monitor local hiring needs, workforce movements and potential talent gaps.
- Ensure that recruitment and selection decisions are properly documented, consistent and based on job-related criteria.
5. Talent and Employee Development
- Facilitate talent reviews and identify high-performing, high-potential and development-needs employees.
- Work with managers on employee development, career progression, retention and succession considerations.
- Recommend practical development interventions based on identified capability gaps.
- Implement Group learning, talent and employee-engagement initiatives in Hong Kong.
- Provide local workforce insights and recommendations to Group HR and management.
6. Hands-on HR Operations and Compliance
- Manage the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, probation confirmation, transfers, employee changes and offboarding.
- Coordinate monthly payroll, MPF, benefits, insurance and relevant tax or statutory reporting.
- Prepare and review employment contracts, HR letters and other employment documentation.
- Maintain accurate, confidential and audit-ready employee records.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Hong Kong employment, statutory and personal-data requirements.
- Monitor relevant regulatory or legislative developments and recommend necessary changes.
- Manage local HR service providers and coordinate with relevant internal functions.
- Maintain HR data and provide accurate workforce reports and updates.
Requirements:
- Typically 4 or more years of broad HR generalist experience, including experience independently managing a business unit, country or substantial employee population.
- Strong practical knowledge of Hong Kong employment legislation, MPF, payroll practices and statutory HR requirements.
- Demonstrated experience independently handling employee grievances, workplace investigations, disciplinary matters and underperformance cases.
- Strong compensation knowledge, including salary benchmarking, internal equity, offer positioning, annual pay reviews, bonuses and promotion recommendations.
